This 2 MILLION EURO BIG BANG by Hublot is one of the world's most expensive watches at over RM 10 million. Call Hublot KL at 03-2161 3228 right this instant to reserve it before anyone grabs it.

I AM ALWAYS FASCINATED BY THINGS THAT GLOW, GLISTEN AND GLITTER! AFTER ALL, I AM LIKE THAT, RIGHT? YES, I LIKE TO SHINE LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE AT FULL THROTTLE!

OF COURSE THIS APPLIES TO WATCHES AND JEWELLERY AS NOTHING SPARKLE MORE BRILLIANTLY THAN DIAMONDS. SAPPHIRES, RUBIES AND EMERALDS ARE FINE AND DANDY BUT ALAS AND ALACK, THEY DON'T REFLECT AND REFRACT LIGHT LIKE DIAMONDS AND THOUGH THEY ARE BEAUTIFULLY COLOURED, THESE TRIO LACK THE SCINTILLATING FIRE THAT SEEMS TO EMANATE MYSTERIOUSLY FROM A DIAMOND'S HEART.

AND SO WHEN HUBLOT SHOWED ME THEIR NEW BLING WATCH, I FELL OFF MY CHAIR AND WOULD HAVE BROKEN EVERY BONE IN MY BODY IF NOT FOR THE THICKLY CARPETED FLOOR WHICH WAS NECESSARY LEST SOME CLUMSY OAF DROPS THE WATCH ON A SOLID MARBLE FLOOR WHICH MIGHT DAMAGE THE INNARDS.

THIS 2MILLION EURO BING BANG WATCH IS CALLED, WOULD YOU BELIEVE, 'THE 2 MILLION EURO BIG BANG WATCH'!

AND WHY NOT?

NO OTHER NAME CAN DO IT JUSTICE!

WHY WASTE TIME CRACKING THE BRAINS TRYING TO COME UP WITH A NAME THAT BEST DESCRIBES A HUBLOT WATCH FROM THE BIG BANG SERIES (USUALLY CALLED BB) THAT COSTS 2 MILLION EUROS THAN THE SIMPLE NAME OF '2 MILLION EURO BIG BANG'.

YUP, 2 MILLION EUROS WHICH IS AT LEAST RM 8.4 MILLION DEPENDING ON EXCHANGE RATE. NOT US$ OR SWISS FRANCS 2 MILLION WHICH WOULD BE CHEAPER AT AROUND RM 6 MILLION. AND DEFINITELY NOT RM 2 MILLION WHICH WOULD BE A STEAL. OH WELL, WE SHOULD BE THANKFUL IT IS NOT 2 MILLION POUNDS WHICH IS WORSE AS IT WOULD BE THE MOST EXPENSIVE CURRENCY AGAINST THE RINGGIT AT OVER RM 10 MILLION.

THIS SPARKLING BABE IS ENTIRELY COATED WITH DIAMONDS. AND I MEAN EVERY AVAILABLE SURFACE IS INLAID WITH DIAMONDS. FROM THE BEZEL TO THE FACE, DIAL, STRAP, BUCKLE AND CROWN. EVEN THE SIDES OF THE WATCH ARE LOADED WITH DIAMONDS. USUALLY, I WOULD SAY 98% OF THE TIME, SIMILAR DIAMOND WATCHES DO NOT HAVE DIAMONDS ON THE SIDE AS THE MANUFACTURERS SEEM CONCERNED ABOUT THE TOP SURFACE AND SEEM TO FORGET THE OWNER AND OTHER ADMIRERS DO VIEW THE WATCH SIDEWAYS TOO AS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ALWAYS LOOK DIRECTLY DOWN ON THE WATCH!

THE ONLY PARTS DEVOID OF DIAMONDS ARE THE TWO SIDEBARS AT EACH SIDE THAT HOLD THE SCREWS. EACH SIDEBAR CONTAINS 2 SCREWS BUT THERE IS STILL ENOUGH EMPTY SURFACE TO SET IT WITH DIAMONDS! SURELY HUBLOT DID NOT RUN OUT OF MONEY OR DIAMONDS AT THE LAST MINUTE?

OH WELL, I AM SURE HUBLOT WILL THROW IN THE LAST FEW DIAMONDS TO THE NEW OWNER FREE OF CHARGE.BUT I AM DISAPPOINTED HUBLOT APPEARS TO MISS THESE 2 SIDE BARS. WHY DID HUBLOT MISS OUT THE LAST HURDLE? SURELY THEY CAN SEE WITH NAKED EYES THERE IS STILL EMPTY SURFACE AREAS SCREAMING TO BE DIAMOND STUDDED.

FROM TOTALLY DIAMOND STUDDED, NOW HUBLOT MAY BE FORCED TO TRUTHFULLY DESCRIBE THIS AS '99% DIAMOND STUDDED' WHICH IS A SHAME.

MORE SO WHEN ALL THE DIAMONDS HAD TO BE INDIVIDUALLY CUT TO FIT THE SHAPE AND DESIGN OF THIS WATCH! IT WAS NOT AS IF HUBLOT COULD GO TO A DIAMOND DEALER AND BUY READY-CUT DIAMONDS TO BE ASSEMBLED AND AFFIXED ONTO THE BLANK WATCH, IF THEY COULD CUT 637 DIAMONDS THEY COULD JOLLY WELL COULD CUT AN EXTRA 6 OR 8 MORE DIAMONDS.

STILL, THE TOTAL DIAMOND WEIGHT IS A MASSIVE 141 CARATS ALTHOUGH EACH AVERAGES 0.4 CARAT AND THE BIGGEST IS ONLY 1.02 CARATS SET INTO THE CROWN.

THE VALUE OF 141 CARATS OF 637 SMALL DIAMONDS IS NOT THE SAME AS 1 DIAMOND WEIGHING 637 CARATS! SO THE DIAMOND VALUE ITSELF COULD WELL BE ONLY A FEW HUNDRED THOUSAND RINGGIT OR HALF A MILLION RINGGIT BUT YOU NEED PAY A PREMIUM DUE TO THE PROCESSING OF THE INDIVIDUAL DIAMONDS WHICH HAD TO BE CUT TO FIT THE OVERALL DESIGN LIKE A JIGSAW PUZZLE AND THE TOURBILLON COMPLICATION AND OF COURSE THE BRAND ITSELF. A RUBY OF SAME SIZE AND EXACT SAME QUALITY BOUGHT AT CARTIER AND YOUR LOCAL NEIGHBOURHOOD JEWELLER HAS A DIFFERENCE LIKE HEAVEN AND EARTH AS MY MOTHER WOULD SAY.

HERE ARE THE DETAILS TO TITILLATE YOUR SENSES

THE 2 MILLION € BB HUBLOT WATCH
2011_23_03_BB_2_Million_HR.jpg

More than 140 carats
637 baguette diamonds
1 rose cut diamond on the crown

A Vendôme Tourbillon movement to appeal to more expert eyes
This is a unique piece, a one-off, an even more audacious master stroke,
a breathtaking expression of expertise providing a level of purity, colour,
cut, finish and uniformity of the whole piece which is a truly rare feat.

Its creation required 45 gemcutters, working non-stop for 1 month, to cut the
stones, as well as 2,000 hours of work by master gemstone setters.
Each diamond could be used to adorn a ring.
Those set at the centre of the bracelet weigh more than 0.40 carat.

A secret project, the 2 MILLION € BB started life as a simple design hand-sketched around the
table in Jean-Claude Biver's office at the Hublot stand at BaselWorld last year, as a "lighthearted
confidential challenge" between Hublot's CEO and our master gemstone setters.

Finished the day before BaselWorld 2011 opened, it took12 months to
bring this exceptional piece to life, made up of 637 baguette diamonds and a rose cut diamond
on the crown, and featuring a Vendôme Tourbillon movement to appeal to lovers of fine
watchmaking.

A tour de force of patience and perfection, it was a long process. It consisted firstly of bringing
the gemstones together, selecting them one by one to achieve perfect uniformity in terms of
purity and colour (the diamonds selected by Hublot are of a remarkable quality, with colour
graded as TOP WESSELTON and clarity of A VVS), then cutting each of them to the technical
designs of the piece, and finishing by patiently setting each of them in a "Clou de Paris" setting,
an extremely meticulous process, taking the master gemstone setters 9 months.

All the diamonds used in this watch come from the same mine, located in Yakutsk in the Russian Far East, on the same latitude as Beijing and a 9-hour flight from Moscow. More than 270 carats of rough diamonds were chosen from a lot of 1500 carats, and from these the stones used were
selected. For about a month, the expert hands of 45 gemcutters worked hard to create 637
baguette diamonds, totalling just over 141 carats.

Dubbed the "Tourbillon Vendôme", it was developed in tribute to the recent opening of the
Hublot boutique at 10, Place Vendôme. On the dial side, two small columns (2 for 200 years)
frame the tourbillon cage - replicas of the column recently illuminated by Hublot to celebrate its
bicentenary. The flying tourbillon movement dubbed HUB6003 was entirely developed and
manufactured within the Hublot manufacture. With 210 components, it boasts a 5-day power
reserve.
