CLINGENDAEL PARK IS PEACEFUL YET MAGNIFICENT AND MAJESTIC WITH A SMALL CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND THAT IS PRACTICALLY A SECRET. IT FEELS LIKE AN ENCHANTED FOREST FILLED WITH FAIRIES AND THERE IS EVEN A GRAND PALATIAL BUILDING, RIVERS AND FORMAL GARDEN YET UT IS IN THE HEART OF THE HAGUE, HOLLAND'S SECOND CITY! A REAL TREAT AND RETREAT IN THE HEART OF A MAJOR CITY!

CLINGENDAEL HOUSE WAS BUILT BETWEEN 1643 AND 1660 AND THROUGH CONSTANTINE HUYGENS BECAME A CENTRE FOR ART AND CULTURE.

During World War 2, Arthur Seyss-Inquart, the Reich Commissioner of the occupying Germans who took only an embarrassing 5 days to conquer Holland, lived in this palatial mansion.  The Municipality of The Hague took over Clingendael House in 1954 and it has served as Dutch Institute for International Relations since 1983.

The vast garden, especially the exotic Japanese garden, is totally serene and lovely and ideal for an afternoon's leisurely walk. The land is big but not 10,000 acres so a lazy stroll is ideal as every angle is so photogenic and it feels like an enchanted glade.
