Happy New Year to one and all from Carlsberg, 2 Lucky Lions and 8 Gods of Fortune!

WHEN CARLSBERG, THE WORLD'S BEST BEER (BELIEVE ME, IT IS TRUE, HONEST INJUN) THROWS A PARTY, PEOPLE SIT AND TAKE NOTICE. SIMPLY BECAUSE A CARLSBERG PARTY IS ONE NOT TO BE MISSED UNLESS SEX IS INVOLVED.

FIRST AS EXPECTED, YOU CAN DRINK FREE TILL KINGDOM COME. SECOND, YOU DON'T NEED TO QUEUE AT THE BAR AND ELBOW EACH OTHER FOR THE FREE BEER. PRETTY GIRLS ARE EVERYWHERE, SMILING, OFFERING AND EVEN CAJOLING YOU TO HAVE YET ANOTHER BEER AS IF IT WAS WATER.

COME TO THINK OF IT, THERE WAS NO WATER PROFERRED. ONLY BEER. FANCY THAT.

Usually it is the other way around when the liquor runs out and you make do with plain water. But at Carlsberg, especially when it is held at its Shah Alam headquarters, beer NEVER runs dry and it is yours for the asking and drinking. Indeed I think some sort of beer manners ('beerners'?) should be installed and adhered to----glasses can only be refilled or another glass given when it is empty. I have seen guys drinking halfway and grabbing another glass. I reprimanded him and he said "My beer got warm'. Another said "Carlsberg makes so much money they wouldn't notice it". Oh well.

Held on 1 February 2012 which happened to be Wilayah Day or City Day, I think almost all invitees turned up as it was a holiday in Kuala Lumpur. This was Carlsberg Chinese New Year to thank the media and friends as well as retailers and I counted nearly half a dozen Tan Sris which was quite a record for a casual lunch party. Everyone applauded when Tan Sri William Cheng of Lion Group turned up as this bon vivant is renowned for enjoying life to the hilt. Let's just say he is the richer version of Kee Hua Chee.

Of course the most important guests were the bosses and top editors from The Star, the nation's mouthpiece and most powerful newspaper with audited readership of 1.55 million daily! My blog gets around 8,000 a day so I have some way to play catch up. Big bosses like Dato Vincent Lee the deputy Executive Chairman, Dato Wong Sai Wan, Brian Martin of Metro, Leanne Goh and managing editor June Wong were there. I heard Carlsberg MD Soren Ravn mentioned Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai's name several times on the mike but I did not see him.

Other VIPs included Datuk Donald Lim, the deputy Minister of Finance, YTM Tunku Naquiyuddin Tuanku Jaafar and his son Kumo, Datuk Professor Jimmy Choo, entrepreneur Tan Choon Hwa, Tan Sri and Puan Sri Ta, Ronald Quay and a bevy of beauties like Chantelle Chuah Miss International 2011, Miss Malaysia Universe 2012 Kimberley Leggett, beauty queen Andrea Fonseka and Adrian Winson Mr Southeast Asia 2011.

Datuk Leonard Tan sang and entertained. So did beat boxes Sean Yap. The highlight was a rap session involving Datuk Leonard Tan, Sean Yap and Soren Ravn. Yes, you read that correct---Soren Ravn the MD of Carlsberg Malaysia! No other Managing Director of a major, international firm in Malaysia can rap like Carlsberg's MD!

There was a fashion show courtesy of Kronenbourg 1664 the elitist French beer with models wearing funky gear in red, blue and white, the colours of the flag of France. Eight hot female dancers carrying football performed an equally hot dance holding footballs as Carlsberg is a sponsor of the European Cup while the Japanese ambassador went on stage to toast the Year of the Dragon with Asahi beer, Japan's top drop which is now brewed in Malaysia for the first time.

Food was served at our tables so we could all yee sang. As we left, all guests were given a 6-bottle pack of various beers brewed at the Carlsberg brewery worth nearly RM 100! Eat, drink and flee with more drinks, that's what I like!

The world's longest plastic green dragon at 118 ft floated loftily outside. A pair of lions stood ready to dance on poles. And not one but 8 Gods of Wealth waited outside to bless everyone with great good fortune. I know the Year of the Dragon will be yet another brilliant year for me!

  1. A party event is perfect to let you relax. Snacks served are of great importance, Snacks served in a party can become more important than the main buffet. Here I would also like to share my personnel experience. Last year I throw a corporate party in Brooklyn at esquire. They really organize all the events very perfectly.
