PART 6; END OF HISTORIC TEA PARTY

KEE@FSWMAG.COM

SUNDAY 3 JUNE WAS INDEED A HISTORIC DAY AS IT WAS THE FIRST TIME AN AFTERNOON ROYAL TEA PARTY WAS HELD IN THE GARDENS OF THE NEW ISTANA NEGARA.

The new National Palace at Jalan Duta was occupied formally by the 14th King and Queen in November 2011 last year when the Sultan of Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah became King for the second time. His first reign as the 5th King of Malaysia was from 1970 to 1975 when he was yang Di Pertuan Agong with his first consort Sultanah Bahiyah who passed away in 2003.

Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah married the present Queen in 1975 and she ascended the throne as Sultanah Kedah on 9 January 2004. Before her enthronement she was styled as Che Puan Kedah.

So Sultan Abdul Halim Shah of Kedah became King twice and with  2 different Queens!

A car worthy of the King of Malaysia. When the Sultan of Kedah became King of Malaysia in 1975, he took a train down from Alor Star to Kuala Lumpur. This time, 30,000 Kedahans thronged the road to Alor Star Airport to bid him farewell for 5 years

Of course out of respect to their monarchs, no one dared sit on the chairs and just stood next to them reverentially. However the table was stripped bare of flowers!

THE END...REALLY!
