The arrival of the Minister of Information, Communications and Culture Dato Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim accompanied by YA1M president Datuk Irwan Shaha aka DJ Dave

Said the Minister of Information, Communications and Culture, "Tonight is a historic night as we are all gathered for a common purpose to honour the veteran artistes. The film and entertainment industry is now deemed so important even the Prime Ministeris attending although he is running late due to his job! This afternoon the Prime MInister told me to represent him but without him, I am just like half a coconut, not complete or whole! I was very disappointed and urged himt to try make it however late.

"I am delighted to tell you that his PA Dato Aziz has phoned me to say Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Datin Seri Rosmah will be coming later tonight! "

To loud applause Dato Seri Rais Yatim continued, "I am sure we are all overjoyed. I told DJ Dave to stop running around and eat something but he said he cannot eat as he feels full already just thinking of the arrival of the Prime Minister."

The Minister then burst into a pantun (short poem) for which he is justly famous. It concluded with "Bila datang pahala, tiada sakit kepala" or 'When Providence comes then no more headaches"!

He noted YA1M supports ALL Malaysian artistes regardless of race. "There are 35 associations that represent the artistes from the various sectors of the entertainment industry, from actors, directors and producers. Yayasan Artis 1Malaysia hopes to be the umbrella organisation looking after the welfare and common good of the artistes. Together with FINAS, the Government hopes the industry will prosper and contribute to the nation.

"The film and entertainment industry is important and the Government is taking steps to promote and protect the industry. Today, albums and movies can be recorded and copied digitally very fast. So the same movie you see in the cinema can appear in ASTRO a month later! So now we plan to lengthen the period of transition from cinema to television so movie producers and backers can recoup their investments.

"YA1M will fight for the rights of Malaysian artistes and the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture will help. The Prime Minister has agreed and YA1M can be the unifying force for all interested parties. This reminds me of another pantun; "Satu, dua, tiga, empat, Itulah cara bilang, Bila semua dapat, Jangan lupa budi orang" or "One, two, three, four, This is how you count, When you get what you want, Do not forget who gave it to you"! Of course it sounds better in Bahasa Malaysia!
