The list of restaurants in the 2013 Michelin Guide to Hong Kong & Macau was released on 4 December 2012 and Hong Kong celebrity chef Harlan Goldstein (Harlan G) was awarded his first Michelin star for his flagship restaurant Gold by Harlan Goldstein and one Michelin star for his latest retro-style steakhouse Strip House by Harlan Goldstein, which opened this May.

“It’s been a lifetime’s ambition to be honoured with a Michelin star and I truly cherish it,” said Harlan G. “It means more to me than you could ever imagine.”

Mr Allan Zeman, Chairman of Lan Kwai Fong Concepts Holdings Ltd commented on Harlan G's achievement said, "Congratulations Harlan and well done for achieving two Michelin stars in Lan Kwai Fong, I am so proud and happy for you and the team. I look forward to enjoying many more memorable meals at your restaurants.”

Over Harlan G’s culinary career, at the age of 17 he apprenticed at the prestigious Montreaux Palace Hotel in Switzerland, and later honed his skills under the renowned Chef Jean Banchet at Michelin 3-star restaurant Le Francais in Chicago.

The accolades cap a stunningly successful year for both Gold and Strip House as the exclusive and exuberant ‘place to see and be seen’ in Hong Kong.

Since its opening in late 2010, Gold by Harlan Goldstein has become one of the most popular dining destinations for tycoons and celebrities in town, and is booked nightly with reservations “absolutely essential”. The popular Saturday Brunch is usually booked well ahead in advance.
Harlan Goldstein’s signature dishes have additionally proved a roaring success with the number of dishes sold, such as Gold’s famous Fiorentina Steaks (3,456), the signature Lobster Spaghetti (6,912), Sea Scallop Carpaccio (8,064) and Tuscany Seafood Soup (9,216).

The restaurant has one of the most prestigious wine lists in town and Gold made headlines when it celebrated its priciest sale, a 1945 Chateau Mouton Rothschild jeroboam that was snapped-up by a tycoon from Beijing for a cool HK$2.38 million.

In May this year, Harlan G returned to his New York roots with Strip House by Harlan Goldstein in Lan Kwai Fong. The retro-style steakhouse invokes the 1940s with images of Marilyn Monroe and pin-up girls, while the sultry jazz numbers of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr are played in the background.

The restaurant’s name is intentionally tongue-in-cheek, with a play on “strip” as a steakhouse, and its somewhat risqué atmosphere in shades of dark red and black. It is well-known for its charcoal-grilled specialties such as hearty, double-cut, grass-fed Fiorentina rib-eye steaks and juicy organic Japanese pork chops.

Some signature dishes on Strip House’s menu include The Sickest Crab Cake on The Planet, the classic New York Strip and Sizzling Brownie that arrives at the table on a hot plate.

Gold and Strip House have both become the most popular dining destinations in town, with celebrities such as Jackie Chan, Leon Lai and tycoons such as Walter Kuok, Henry Tang and Stephen Ip flocking to Harlan G’s restaurants for his delectable cuisine.

In July this year, Harlan G also won top honours at HK Magazine’s first “Ultimate Steak Challenge” against Chef Jason Black of Shore. The contest had the two chefs prepare a five-course “steak-inspired” menu that was blind tasted and judged by 82 diners, and in the end raised HK$150,000 for charity.

Gold by Harlan Goldstein is located at Level 2 LKF Tower, 33 Wyndham Street, Central, Hong Kong.

Strip House by Harlan Goldstein is located at 5/F Grand Progress Building, 15-16 Lan Kwai Fong, Central, Hong Kong.
