A GRAND RECEPTION FOR OVER 500 GUESTS WAS HELD IN TAMAN MAHSURI, ROYALE CHULAN HOTEL'S BALLROOM ON 5 DECEMBER 2012 TO CELEBRATE THE 85TH BIRTHDAY OF HIS MAJESTY KING BHUMIBOL ADULYADEJ OF THAILAND.

The ambassador of Turkey and ambassador of Cambodia Princess Arun Norodom whose father King Sihanouk died recently so she is in mourning dress.
Earlier in the day, over 250,000 crowded the Royal Plaza in Bangkok to toast their beloved King and to hear him make a speech from the Ananda Palace balcony. The video was shown to guests in Kuala Lumpur during the reception.
Long live the King of Thailand! Long live the King of Malaysia!
The deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Richard Riot represented the Government and people of Malaysia to wish His Majesty the King of Thailand a very Happy Birthday and many more to come.
Datuk Richard Riot made his speech followed by an address from Songsak Saicheua, Minister and Charge d'Affaires of Royal Thai Embassy. The new Thai ambassador His Excellency Krit Kraichitti was present but he had not yet been granted an audience to present his credentials to the King of Malaysia the Yang DiPertuan Agong so he could not make a speech in his capacity as Thai ambassador.
The wife of the Thai ambassador Madame Korbiat Kraichitti was very lovely and sweet and made everyone felt welcomed and at home.
The food was a lavish spread and never ending! The Thai mangoes were a hit though I wish Royale Chulan had allowed Thai durians as well!
After the toasting to the King of Malaysia and King of Thailand and the people of Malaysia and Thailand, many went to view the special exhibition featuring the good works of King Bhumibhol Adulyadej through 65 years.
There were special Thai dances performed by young Siamese Malaysian dancers who learned the Thai language and culture at Buddhist temples in Kuala Lumpur.
The first was the Blessing Dance called 'Rum Auy Porn' similar to Asyik the court dance from Kelantan and the second was an elaborate dance 'Menora' with exquisite costumes replete with the famous signature tail and beaded collar and puff balls. I used to watch such dances also called 'Menorah' in Kelantan when I was a boy and loved it so much. The Menora is a hybrid of man and bird hence the attributes.
The third and final dance was an upbeat, uptempo Issan dance from the Northeast of Thailand. It was a special courtship dance with Laotian influences.
