MERCEDES-BENZ STYLO FASHION GRAND PRIX
KL 2013

VISA HOSTS FIRST EVER MEN’S FASHION SHOW AT MERCEDES-BENZ STYLO FGP 2013

Kuala Lumpur, 19TH March 2013 – On the 3rd night of Mercedes-Benz STYLO FGP 2013’s week long fashion festival, Visa International and STYLO hosted the first ever fashion show dedicated to men. Themed ‘MEN HAVE NO SECRETS’, guests feasted on an electrifying line up of menswear collection at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral today.

It was night by men, for men debuting the best of Asia’s male designers’ from Asian Fashion Inc. including Jason of Singapore and Upstart of Japan. Malaysian designers ruled the runway led by Bon Zainal, who featured the best of his men’s suits whilst Joe Chia unveiled his brand new line, Chapter02 and Fairuz Ramdan showcased his vintage collection.

Tongue-in-cheek detail featuring tongue hanging out from pocket! So cute!

Taking into account the infrequent men’s fashion shows in Malaysia, STYLO put together an exciting line-up of Asian designers and their designs which were presented in the usual STYLO trademark fanfare topped with masculinity where even the female guests attended dressed as men last night.

Bon Zainal also the President &  Advisor to Bumiputera Designers Association is no new comer to the STYLO FGP. Known for his sharp and dapper men’s suits, his collection was a hit on the runway. Joe Chia, who emerged as 2nd Runner-up at the Mercedez-Benz STYLO Young Designers Award in 2009, showcased his new line called Chapter02 while Fairuz Ramdan, the British-born fashion designer of Malay descent, continued his trade mark vintage style with quirky colours and designs throughout his collection.

Dato’ Nancy Yeoh, President and CEO of Stylo International quoted, “Men and fashion shouldn’t be undermined. A true metrosexual man loves fashion and appreciates the finer details of looking good. As such the men’s fashion industry is growing rapidly and tonight’s showcase is proof that we should continue to push forth menswear fashion to the forefront. We have many talented Asian and  home-grown designers who deserve the recognition for their unique styles and craftsmanship. We are thankful to our host, Visa who shares our vision in dedicating one night specially to our male segment this time around at the FGP.”

One of the highlights of the night was PVT Structure’s men’s underwear showcase which was a “the icing on top the cake” moment for many female guests.  Toned and stylised male models strutted and sizzled on the catwalk amidst wolf whistles and cheers from appreciative female audiences.

A CUT ABOVE’s creative stylists Faevien Yee and Fabian Wong were responsible for the outstanding hair designs throughout the night assisted by Dicksum Low.

After the show, guests were led in to the after party room which was transformed again as a make believe giant STYLO doll house. Taking a leaf from the movie “Truman Show”, it was based on the concept of a room within a room with an inner sanctum as the dance floor.

STYLO International was set up to create fringe events to support world class motorsport activities in the region. Motorsport activities have seen tremendous jump in Asia as it is the sports of choice for the affluent male; the same way affluent females covert couture fashion. Hence, the use of fashion as the excuse for this stylish fringe activity. STYLO is essentially a Malaysian slang for the word ‘style’. The ‘O’ in STYLO denotes that fashion evolves in a circle.
