Airline’s eighth consecutive sponsorship is proof of its commitment to golf

Emirates Airline recently concluded yet another partnership with the Maybank Malaysian Open as the proud sponsor and official airline of the prestigious golf tournament. It was the airline’s eighth consecutive partnership with the tournament. Despite the dull weather conditions, spirits were sky-high on the course as another successful year of tournament drew to a close.

Kavin Martinus, Emirates’ Country Manager for Malaysia, voiced his pleasure that the tournament was a roaring success. He said, “This year marks Emirates eighth sponsorship year and we are extremely pleased with how it all panned out, despite the dull weather. We remain steadfast in our efforts to develop golf and other sports across the globe. This tournament bears testament to that and underscores our commitment to the sport as well as the intrinsic values of sportsmanship.”

The tournament, which took place at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) from 21st to 24th March, saw the biggest names in golf competing and attracted hundreds of spectators.

Throughout the four days, various activities were carried out and Emirates’ caps and merchandise were distributed to the spectators, all in the name of fun and to create excitement during the annual tournament.

The highlight of Emirates’ activities was the Emirates Junior Golf Clinic, which saw 15 budding golfers from Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam and Royal Selangor Golf Club being given tips and techniques by American pro-golfer Jason Knutzon.

According to Kavin Martinus, “The Emirates Junior Golf Clinic is an important and meaningful event that Emirates carries out annually during the Maybank Malaysian Open. Through this clinic, we hope to reach out to the grassroots level in our efforts to elevate the game’s standards. One of these children will be a future golfing pro – mark my words.”

This year, apart from the Emirates’ Hospitality Marquee, the airline created an oasis in the middle of the golf club named Taste of Emirates. Visitors to this oasis were greeted by the airline’s multicultural cabin crew giving out Emirates’ caps and serving cold drinks as well as Arabic dates. They even handed out cold towels to visitors seeking refuge from the sweltering heat.

Visitors to the Maybank Malaysian Open this year were also given the chance to win two return Business Class tickets to Dubai onboard the luxurious Emirates A380 by taking part in an Emirates iPad quiz.
