CHOPARD'S 'RED CARPET' JEWELLERY COLLECTION

KEE@FSWMAG.COM
FOR THE 66TH CANNES FILM FESTIVAL, CHOPARD CREATED A SPECTACULAR AND APTLY NAMED 'RED CARPET' JEWELLERY COLLECTION.

Its very name 'Red Carpet' says it all.

The bling are stunningly designed and exquisitely crafted as expected from Chopard so it was not surprising some thieves broke into a Novotel hotel room to carry the safe containing RM 5 million worth of jewels! At least the robbers had good taste knowing Chopard produces only the best bling this side of observable universe!

But the best pieces were worth more than what was stolen so it was irritating but not a disaster.

Here are the Red Carpet collection worthy of Emperors, Kings and Queens!

The various stages of creation

Blanca Suárez and Jeremy Irvine
2013 Chopard Trophy award winners

For the 12th edition of its Trophy, Chopard honours Blanca Suárez, the delightful Madrid-born actress revealed by Pedro Almodóvar, and Jeremy Irvine, the stubborn hero of War Horse. Here are brief portraits of these up and coming talents in the world of the seventh art.

Blanca Suárez
Born on October 21st 1988 in Madrid, Blanca Suárez is a fashion model and an actress. She began her career in television in 2007 with the popular Spanish series El Internado (The Boarding School), before taking her first steps on the big screen in a horror movie titled Shiver (Eskalofrio), directed by Isidoro Ortiz. This young lady has been in the public eye ever since, gracing the fashion and beauty pages of various women’s magazines as well as acting in a number of short films and series. Having caught the attention of Pedro Almodóvar, she became one of his new muses and acquired international recognition. In La piel que habito (The Skin I Live In) she is Norma, the depressive daughter of a famous surgeon played by Antonio Banderas. Her performance earned her a nomination for the Goya award for Best Young Actress. As well as starring in the film director’s latest movie, Los amantes pasajeros (literally passing/passenger lovers), a wild and uninhibited comedy, the gorgeous Spaniard also features in Imanol Uribe’s Miel de naranjas (Orange Honey), a dramatic story set in 1950s Spain during the Franco dictatorship.

Jeremy Irvine
It took just one film to propel Jeremy Irvine to international stardom. At the age of 21, after studying at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and having made a few stage and TV appearances, this young Briton was entrusted by Steven Spielberg with the main role in War Horse (2011). In this extraordinary story of friendship, the novice actor plays Albert, an adolescent prepared to do anything to find again the horse his father sold to the army in 1914.

Since this brilliant first endeavour, the actor has been involved in a number of major projects. He will soon be appearing in another war film, The Railway Man, directed by Jonathan Teplitzky, alongside Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth. In it, he plays the role of the youthful Eric Lomax, an English army officer captured by the Japanese during World War II and forced to work on building a railroad running from Burma to Siam. Jeremy Irvine will also play the leading role in Mike Newell’s new adaptation of Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations, together with Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes.

Cannes, May 16th 2013 – Born of Caroline Scheufele’s passion for the 7th art, the objective of the Trophée Chopard, awarded in conjunction with Variety magazine and with the support of Cannes Festival President, Gilles Jacob, is to encourage new talent in the world of cinema by rewarding a Best Young Actor and Actress of the Year. For this 13th event, in addition to Caroline Scheufele, the jury consisted of executive editor of Variety Steve Gaydos, actress Olivia Munn, producer Harvey Weinstein, director Taylor Hackford as well as director and screenwriter John Wells. After much thought, these professionals decided on Blanca Suárez and Jeremy Irvine. Presented by Alessandra Sublet, the ceremony also looked back on the careers of the awardees with a short retrospective documentary. The two young actors accepted their prizes with gratitude and emotion. Created by Caroline Scheufele herself, and as precious to receive as to look at, the Trophée Chopard is a powerful symbol of the cinema – a strip of film roll finely crafted by the hands of the House’s master jewellers.

“The Trophée Chopard is one of my favourite events. A movie lover, it touches me immensely because it is a window on the future of cinema” confesses Caroline Scheufele in an aside.

After the prize-giving, winners, members of the jury and prestigious guests congregated on the terrace of the Chopard Lounge, located on the top floor of the Hotel Martinez, for an elegant party during which guests were given an opportunity to taste Boizel champagnes and Grey Goose cocktails. In this refined setting, the guests also enjoyed an exceptional and exclusive performance by the excellent Solange Knowles in Chopard, who came specially from the United States for the occasion, and artist Alexandre Billard DJ set during the second part of the evening.

Amongst the guests invited to this evening with its “glamourous” dress code, were a large number of VIPs who responded to the invitation sent by the Co-President of the House of Chopard. Fan Bing Bing, Cara Delevingne, Sonam Kapoor, Livia Firth, Paz Vega, Nadine Labaki as well as Harvey Weinstein and Miguel Angel Silvestre, all in Chopard, were also on the guest list of this highly successful evening.
