28TH JULY 2013

KEITH KEE COUTURE 12TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Keith Kee Couture celebrated twelve years of excellence, in conjunction with the annual Kuala Lumpur Wedding Expo, by debuting its Spring / Summer 2014 collection at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This milestone celebration saw designer Keith Kee’s exquisite designs in brand new ranges of wedding gowns, party dresses, evening gowns, as well as cheongsams.

Though the four collections boast of vastly different styles and look, these 59 outfits features the predominant usage of Thai silk, Shantung silk, duchess satin, French lace and tulle net materials. Kee is renowned for his signature use of the flowy and elegant chiffon, coupled with multi-coloured tone materials, along with delicate detailing and embroidery on all of his creations. This time around however, he challenged himself and elevated his designs to the next level by evolving as well as re-inventing what was known as his signature.

The combination of French lace and chiffon in the wedding gown range channels the softness and sweetness of romance, which lends to its timelessness, as it is inspired by the classiness of the era that was the 1920s. Chiffon was previously favoured in all other Keith Kee Couture designs except or wedding gowns but this time, Kee’s experiments with various materials and touches resulted in these ethereal dresses.

As for the party dress range, the bright colours that usher the spring and summer seasons are colour blocked with the contrasting but sexy colour of black. Further signature touch of Kee’s detailing - through the use of embroidery, lace, and crystals - enhances these dresses to a grander level, making them suitable for any occasion. This was made evident when the models paraded these party dresses on the runway to the electrifying sounds of Dennis Lau’s violin as well as the explosive beat-boxing beats of Koujee.

The cheongsam range on the other hand is an interesting encounter between the oriental beauty and the western classic. With body fitting cutting that traditionally embraces the beauty of a woman’s curves, these pastel-coloured cheongsams are transformed into unique and splendid masterpieces after the additional and masterful touches of vintage ruffles and lace, which is inspired by the majestic Victorian era.

For his avant garde creations, and unlike any other designs that Kee has previously created, he showcased a classy evening gown range which brings into mind the elegance of the 1950s. Though femininely structured, these gowns are accentuated with a twist through the incorporation of abstract origami art, which was outstandingly perfected by Kee’s creative touch of the craft.

“A significant amount of my designing inspiration comes from my customers, based on the feedback and comments they have given me all these years. That is why in conjunction with the 12th year anniversary of my brand, I have decided to surprise and showcase my appreciation towards them with this Spring / Summer 2014 collection, which I believe has much more of my passion in it,” explained Kee.

To complement these ranges of outfits, a men’s collection - consisting of wedding suits, evening suits, as well as mandarin-collared pieces - was also created in line with his inspiration. More than that, and to the delight of guests, an ensemble for the young flower girl and page boy was also included during the showcase.

Specially designed for this occasion which was emceed by Natalia Mei, the glorious nature of these never-before-seen outfits were professionally brought to live on the runway by a handful of our country’s top models which included Amber Chia and Kelly Jagan, along with beauty queens Carey Ng and Chloe Chen, just to name a few.

This celebration would not have been possible without the generous support of sponsors Amber Chia Academy, A Cut Above, Kronenbourg 1664, Runway Productions, 321 Proproject, Dennis Lau & Koujee, and last but not least, the organiser of the Kuala Lumpur Wedding Expo 2013.
