FAUCHON IS MORE THAN EYE CANDY--- NOW YOU CAN HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO AS THEIR MACAROONS AND PRESENTATIONS ARE SO DELICIOUS!

KEE@FSWMAG.COM
I ONLY BUY AND EAT FAUCHON MACAROONS AND ECLAIRS IN PARIS AT THEIR WORLD FAMOUS LOCATION ON PLACE DE MADELEINE NEXT TO MADELEINE CHURCH.

But since not everyone is as highclass, sophisticated and rich like me, poorer members of society can now eat Fauchon goodies in Hong Kong at Hysan Place and Harbour City.

In fact, you could have already enjoyed Fauchon's goodies right before you depart KLIA for Hong Kong! There was a Fauchon cafe/restaurant in KLIA itself at Level 2, Central Hub but I heard it is now closed! Too bad, so sad....

HISTORY OF FAUCHON

Inception date: 1886

Arriving from Calvados in 1880, Auguste Fauchon set up shop on its food cart at Place de la Madeleine, offering fruits and vegetables from the best orchards and vegetable farms in France. In 1886, aged only 30, he opened his first store in the same square. At that time, innovative grocers like Harrods in London, Dalmayer in Munich and Peck in Milan were quite the rage. His quality products and innovative selections, including the LU cookies adored by Sarah Bernhardt and Maggi’s famous bouillon cubes, quickly made FAUCHON become a favourite among stylish Parisians. In 1891, Auguste opened his Grandes Caves de Réserve, which would eventually comprise 800,000 bottles. This was followed by a bakery-pastry shop in 1895 and a restaurant-tearoom in 1898.

FAUCHON became the most sophisticated brand in Paris, a symbol of French luxury. “Central 4354” was the most famous telephone number in the capital, known by heart in upscale neighbourhoods and regularly dialled by luxury hotels’ concierges to place orders for fine foods. Inscribed in elegant white letters on a black background, the name of FAUCHON appeared on the products and was seen on packages as well on the delivery vans that crisscrossed the streets of Paris daily.

In 1952, Auguste’s heirs sold the most famous grocery store in France to businessman Joseph Pilosoff, owner of Chocolateries Poulain. That same year, the company forged an exclusive partnership with Air France under which exotic and off-season products – then unknown in Paris – could be imported. Avocados found their way to Parisians and cherries from Chile were enjoyed for the first time at Christmas.

From forerunner and discoverer of fine flavours, FAUCHON became a trendsetter and, in 1960, a creator, producing fruit-flavoured teas and, ten years later, flower-petal teas.

For generations, people have come first to FAUCHON to find products not available anywhere else.

In 1960, FAUCHON lands in Japan thanks to one of its fruit flavoured tea: the Apple tea, which still remains one of the Japanese customer’s favourite teas.

In 1972, FAUCHON introduces its full grocery range in Japan through a partnership with TAKASHIMAYA.

Between the late 1960s and the late 90s, FAUCHON underwent significant international growth. It entered the Japanese market and then opened a store in Qatar (1994), South Korea, (1995) and Egypt (1996).

2004: A brand revolution

Michel Ducros took the helm of the company. In keeping with the founder’s motto – “To be the best if not the unique” – he began to revitalise the already world-renowned brand. With a new logo, a new image, new product lines in all the company’s specialties and a new store concept, FAUCHON has kept pace with the times and stayed abreast of new trends, offering the very best, unearthing the unexpected, and always delighting the taste buds. Now enjoying worldwide visibility, the brand’s exclusive style is rooted in its historic location, which also serves as the base for its international expansion.

At the same time, the company continued its international expansion with new stores and restaurants in Asia and the Middle East.

Throughout 2012/2013, FAUCHON has witnessed its retail sales reaching 247 million Euros, 80% of which was made internationally. FAUCHON totalizes 60 branded stores and restaurants.
