 At the launch
Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin was awarded Man of the Year 2014 by Oil and Gas Year Malaysia 2014

The Oil & Gas Year Malaysia 2014 is published by Wildcat International and produced in partnership with the Malaysian Gas Association, the Malaysian Oil & Gas Service Council and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The Oil & Gas Year Malaysia 2014 focuses on the nation’s three-pronged approach to boosting plateauing oil and gas production, namely deepwater development, enhanced oil recovery projects and marginal field development. It will be the key investment guide for the global oil and gas community for the year ahead,” said The Oil & Gas Year’s regional director, Jack Miller.

At the event, co-sponsored by Talisman Energy and PricewaterhouseCoopers, president and group CEO of SapuraKencana Petroleum, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Shahril bin Shamsuddin was named The Oil & Gas Year Malaysia 2014 Man of the Year. SapuraKencana became the world’s largest tender rig owner and operator in 2013 and solidified its role upstream by acquiring eight production-sharing contracts and an alliance contract to become one of the five-largest producers in Malaysia. Tan Sri Dato' Seri Shahril bin Shamsuddin gave an acceptance speech upon receiving the award.  Tying in with Malaysia’s success in boosting investment across the nation’s hydrocarbons value chain, Sridharan Nair, Managing Partner at PWC also gave a speech in which he discussed the dynamic investment climate in Malaysia’s domestic oil and gas industry.

UMW Oil & Gas was also presented an award, Initial Public Offering of the Year, for its $740 million initial public offering in November 2013. This was the largest public debut of the year and UMW is planning to use 60 percent of the proceeds to acquire new offshore assets. The award was presented to Rohaizad Darus, President of UMW Oil & Gas.

The first project of its kind in Asia, the tension leg platform (TLP) for Malaysia’s third deepwater development, the Malikai field, was recognised as the Engineering and Construction Project of the Year. Representing the JV project partners, Jamalludin Obeng, General Manager, Commercial & Business Development, Offshore Business Unit from MHB was present to receive the award along with Syed Feizal Syed Mohammad, Senior Vice President - Malaysia & Brunei for Technip.

Canada Place was a fitting location for the launch as Malaysia became the largest foreign investor in Canada in 2013 thanks Petronas’ $35-billion LNG project in British Columbia.
