DOLCE THE NEW PERFUME!

The new fragrance that heralds an emotional and sensory journey through the heart of Dolce&Gabbana’s noble land of Sicily.  DOLCE blossoms in the memories of Domenico and Stefano. In the same antique mirror that hangs in the Designers’ office today, which was in the tailor shop of Domenico’s father in Polizzi Generosa, near Palermo, the reflections of emotions and traditional values come back to life.

Dolce is one’s personal touch, feminine and fresh, signature scent. It epitomises the simplicity of a result obtained thanks to a complex process: the same one needed to create a finely-embroidered dress.

“The nobility of the soul, the elegance of every day gestures, the joy of sharing from generation to generation, and the effortless perfection of a single white flower. This is the picture of Sicily that I carry within me, and the one captured in this delicate fragrance,” says Domenico Dolce.

“Dolce is a contemporary fragrance inspired by a memory. The originality is not just in the way it was created, using traditional essences and other brand-new ingredients, but also because it is the translation into fragrance of a young new love that will, by virtue of its innocence, retain its youthful vitality,” adds Stefano Gabbana.

Dolce is a gentle, feminine mix of white flowers, introduced by the freshness of the Neroli leaves and defined by the White Amaryllis, a South African flower used for the first time ever in scent. The fragrance opens with a brightly-coloured, sweet-smelling explosion of Neroli leaves and Papaya flower, dissipating into a floral bouquet as the core of the fragrance emerges. A unique and opulent combination of White Water Lily and bold White Daffodil blend perfectly with the full-bodied White Amaryllis. The rich, fulsome notes of the South African White Amaryllis were created using “Headspace Technology” which captures the exact scent of the flower when it is in full bloom without having to cut it and grind the petals to extract the essential oil.  Its wide, trumpet blooms has buds that grow at different speeds – so each has a different intensity of scent.

Dolce’s elegant packaging is reminiscent of a vintage fragrance flacon. Thick, clear glass with softly curved lines reveal sparkling glints of the vibrant green juice, as fresh and crisp as the Neroli leaves within. The flower stopper is crafted to portray the marzipan sculptures of traditional Sicilian confectioners. The bud is perfection itself, the petals fan out in three rows, with colours graduating from milky-white, to cream, with a soft pink centre.

A thin black grosgrain ribbon, in an elegant bow, conjures images of the white shirts and bow-ties that were a signature of early Dolce&Gabbana catwalk shows.  The outer packaging, the soft white box’s material is as refined and smooth as fine leather.

The final and most personal touch: Dolce signed in a flourish of black script, a replica of Domenico Dolce’s father’s own signature. It is underscored by the Dolce&Gabbana logo with a graphic twist of thin black grosgrain ribbon, a perfect contrast of classic and contemporary style.

Kate King stars as Dolce’s campaign testimonial and her role in the television campaign marks her screen debut.  The twenty-year-old Canadian model is fast becoming a recognised face in the Dolce&Gabbana recent ready to wear and jewellery collections with her wide, almond-shaped hazel eyes and noble features.

In the advertising campaign, Domenico Dolce himself shot the print fragrance for Dolce, working alongside Stefano Gabbana as Creative Director -  his first time behind the lens for a Dolce&Gabbana fragrance campaign.

To bring to life the story of Dolce, Domenico and Stefano recreated a garden of white flowers at the wall of a stately Sicilian home. The soft and ethereal background highlights Kate King’s refined beauty, portraying her as a modern day Angelica - Claudia Cardinale woken from sleep, pure, natural and still dressed in her white petticoat.

Academy Award-winning director and ultimate ambassador for the Sicilian lifestyle, Giuseppe Tornatore, was
asked to translate all the feelings of the Dolce world, into an iconic film. Tornatore interprets with elegance the finest nuances of the soul.

Dolce: Fragrance Fact Sheet
The Journey
·         Dolce is a journey of discovery, and represents the union between Dolce&Gabbana’s creative vision and P&G Prestige’s passion for innovation.

·         Mr. Dolce and Mr.Gabbana’s vision for their new scent was to design a new floral bouquet that would capture the essence of delicate seduction, femininity and courtship that lives at the heart of Sicily

·         The journey of discovery began at the Southern tip of Africa, at the point where 2 of the great oceans meet – the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean

·         The encounter of these 2 Oceans with contrasting weather systems gave the area a unique climate, which is more akin to the Mediterranean than the rest of Africa – this combination of landscape and geographical location leadsto a highly diverse and unique floral kingdom – Flora Capensis

·         The Fynbosregion (as it is known locally) is host to a huge variety of endemic species, making it a very special and inspirational destination in our continuous search for Innovation in scent. This is where our discovery of the White Amaryllis was made.

The Discovery
·         The White Amaryllis is a beautiful and generously scented flower that is in bloom for just a short period of time during southern hemisphere’s autumn

·         The special species of White Amaryllis spends most of the year actually underground, waiting for the moment when it will bloom to the surface, trumpeting its rich and opulent scent

·         All its initial energy goes into thebloom and scent of the flower and only the flower is growing at this point. This visual and scented attraction ensures the flower is pollinated and only after this “courtship” has happened the leaves come out:this is unique to this species of White Amaryllis

·         The name Amaryllis comes from the Greek verb "amarysso", which means:  "I bring light/ I sparkle/ I dazzle”: this dazzling white flower – which uses all its initial energy to bloom and to spread its solar and enveloping scent in the air

The Innovation

·         The White Amaryllis notes were created using Headspace Technology which enabled us to capture the scent of the living flower in its full bloom without cutting or damaging the petals

·         A combination of techniques is used to capture all scented molecules, from the very light to the heavier ones: to effectively take an olfactive picture of this unique flower in full bloom, analyse it and recreate it using the perfumery palette

·         This technique is absolutely crucial to the uniqueness of the scent in the white floral bouquet of Dolce

The Fragrance

·         Dolce is a gentle, feminine white floral bouquet

·         The scent opens with the Neroli leaves and Papaya flowers, which dissipates into the opulent combination of White Amaryllis, White Daffodil and White Water Lily

·         The background of the scent is counterbalanced by the complex accents of Cashmeran along with warm musky notes

·         The White Amaryllis is the undisputed hero of this creation

The Packaging

·         The elegant packaging is reminiscent of a vintage flacon, thick clear glass and softly curved lines; which lend a contemporary edge to the design

·         The flower cap pays tribute to Sicilian customs, the original design handcrafted to portray the Marzipan sculptures seen in traditional confections

·         Dolce is signed in a flourish of black script, a replica of Domenico Dolce’s father’s own signature, adding a final personal touch to the fragrance
