Born in New Zealand to a Chinese father and Egyptian mother, Bobby Chinn has lived a very international life.   Upon completion of his education in England, he worked in the USA (on both the east and west coasts), then travelled the world, finally settling in Vietnam in 1996.  Along the way, he developed a passion for food and cooking, and opened Restaurant Bobby Chinn, his first restaurant in Hanoi, in 2001.  The restaurant was later moved into his private home in 2009.  A second restaurant, Bobby Chinn Saigon, opened in 2011 and closed in 2013.  Bobby published his cookbook Wild, Wild East:  Recipes & Stories from Vietnam in 2007 (later reprinted and retitled Vietnamese Food in 2010).

Bobby’s enthusiasm for cooking is infectious, and his energy and passion are evident as he cooks and entertains.  Throughout Asia he is a culinary celebrity, thanks in part to regular television appearances on the World Café series in Discovery TLC since 2007.   He has also collaborated with numerous top international luxury brands for corporate events, ranging from BMW and Credit Suisse to Exxon Mobil and Louis Vuitton.

Bobby opened his first London restaurant – The House of Ho – in January 2014 in Old Compton Street, Soho.  His menus mix traditional Vietnamese dishes with a ‘Bobby twist’, incorporating some of the influences he has picked up in his myriad global travels.  The restaurant is fun, sexy, informal and moderately priced – very Soho, very London, and very cool.

Bobby recently appeared in BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen in June 2014.
