Ten up and coming designers have been chosen to bring their collections to life on the grand runway finale for Hello Kitty Friends Catwalk, a Fashion Design Competition organised as part of the Hello Kitty’s 40th Anniversary Celebrations by SANRIO HELLO KITTY TOWN Nusajaya.

In the first phase of the Hello Kitty Friends Catwalk Fashion Competition, held in August, young aspiring designers from all over the country answered the call to design a two piece party wear collection inspired by Hello Kitty.

Based on the submitted design sketches, 10 finalists were chosen to move on to the next stage of the competition – the actual production of their designs.

THESE ARE THE SELECTED DESIGNS;
 AKMAL ARRIFIN
 AMY BEOT
 BARLEY FOO
 CHASE CHONG
 FELIX FAN
 HARIHARAN ARASU
 LUNA XYN
 ROS HAZIQQAH
 ROY XUAN

Under the creative eye of Ms Gillian Hung, President of Malaysia Official Designer’s Association (“MODA”), the shortlisted designers will be mentored to create their two-piece collections capturing the essence of Hello Kitty, a cute lovable girl whose joy in life is making friends.

The two piece party wear collection will consist of a day outfit and an evening outfit, with the evening outfit drawing on both inspirations by Hello Kitty and elements of Malaysian culture.

“Hello Kitty has been a cultural phenomenon for 40 years and already has a following among the fashion community. It was only natural we at MODA be part of this global fashion experience.

"What we are looking for are designs that derive inspiration from the many styles that Hello Kitty has sported over her 40 years”, said Gillian Hung, President of MODA who is also one the judges.

These 10 finalists will be judged for work of outstanding creativity, skill and workmanship based on several criteria such as theme inspiration, fabric usage & fabrication, colour usage, creativity, accessory pairing and technical construction.

“I am excited to see the upcoming talent from these young Malaysian designers and look forward to guiding them as they move from the concept stage to the production stage and

finally to see their designs down the actual runway.

"I am also excited to have a hand in adding to Hello Kitty’s 40th Anniversary celebration with this runway showcase of beautiful designs!” adds Gillian.

The top 10 designers will compete on the grand stage at the Hello Kitty Friends Catwalk Finale set for 1st November in the heart of SANRIO HELLO KITTY TOWN Nusajaya. The winning designer will walk away with a grand cash prize of RM 5,000.

Public Voting

The top 10 finalists and their designs are now featured in the Hello Kitty Friends Catwalk website and members of the public are encouraged to vote for their favourite Hello Kitty inspired designs. Votes gathered from the public voting will contribute to the designers’ scores during the Hello Kitty Friends Catwalk Finale.
