The band is fired by the talent and love of Rock ‘n’ Roll of Shane Cortese and Chet O’Connell. The Class of 58’ plays a selection of rock ‘n’ roll all over New Zealand and Australia.

The band completed a tour of New Zealand’s biggest theatres culminating in a highly successful concert in Twin Towns / Australia. ‘The Class of 58’ released their debut album with a portion of the sales goes to the Starship Foundation.

Shane Cortese is one of New Zealand’s most recognisable performers with a multitude of television, film, theatre and music credits to his name.

Best known for his role as Mac in TVNZ hit drama ‘Nothing Trivial’, as Hayden Peters in five series of ‘Outrageous Fortune’, and his 2 year leading role on the drama serial ‘Shortland Street’ as evil Dominic Thompson – a character killed off in spectacular fashion.

Shane also played the title role of Brian in the Television New Zealand drama series ‘Burying Brian’, and Loki/Colin in the new comedy drama series from the Outrageous Fortune Team ‘The Almighty Johnsons’.

Shane will soon be appearing as Victor Benton in the TV3 Sitcom ‘Brown Bruthaz’.

In 2006 Shane presented the entertainment series ‘So You Think You Can Dance?’ Shane won the hearts of the nation as runner up on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ in 2005, where he met his now wife Nerida as his dance partner on the series.

Shane and Nerida married in early 2009 and have 2 sons Kees and Jett.

Shane also had a role on the children’s series ‘Maddigan’s Quest’ in 2005 and starred in the feature film ‘Inside’ that same year.

Shane then back-packed his way around Sri Lanka for TVNZ’s award winning series ‘Intrepid Journeys’, then appeared in the American series ‘Legend of the Seeker’ as Morwyn.

Shane narrates the top rating TV series ‘Serious Crash Unit’ and ‘SPCA Rescue’.

Shane supported music legend’s Gerry and the Pacemakers on their tour of New Zealand recently. Shane has also appeared alongside Johnny Devlin on a special New Zealand tour.

Before returning to New Zealand for Shortland Street, Shane starred in musicals all over London’s West End and the United Kingdom including ‘The Rocky Horror Show’, ‘Joseph’, and ‘Elvis The Musical’.

Chet is one of New Zealand’s finest entertainers. He has a warm stage presence and is a natural entertainer, add to this his skill as a guitarist and you get a total entertainment package.

Chet has been working as a professional musician for the past twelve years as a Guitarist and Vocalist. He is constantly in demand spreading his work load between live and studio work.

It is difficult to categorize Chet in one particular style of music. Chet’s extensive repertoire sees him performing music ranging from “Middle Of The Road” and Country, through to Rock ‘n’ Roll, Rock and Blues.

His vast musical ability has enabled him to move around the music scene with ease.

Chet grew up influenced by guitar greats such as Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Merle Travis and Tommy Emmanuel. At the same time he was listening to classic rock ‘n’ roll artists such as Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, Elvis, and the Beatles to name a few.

Chet has always had a love of good music and found that he was drawn to the music of the 50’s and 60’s most of all.

Having this love of Rock ‘n’ roll has paid off as he has recently been involved with the “Class Of 58” Rock ‘n’ Roll Show featuring Shane Cortese.

Chet plays lead guitar and shares the vocal duties with Shane. One of the highlights of the show is Chet’s Tribute to the great Buddy Holly.

He looks the part, acts the part and plays great guitar which makes this an entertaining part of the show.

Chet also performs with his own band, as a solo artist and with many of New Zealand’s top entertainers.

Whether Chet is playing rock ‘n roll, pop, rock, blues or country, he gives his all to every performance and loves to perform live.

Chet O’Connell is a dynamic performer, an outstanding Musician and a First Class crowd pleaser - an entertainer you’re sure to enjoy.

Neil began piano lessons at age seven, guitar lessons at age ten and settled on the Electric Bass at age fourteen. He studied Double Bass under George Woodall and Barry Johnson (New Zealand Symphony Orchestra) and he formed his first band when he was twelve and started making ‘music for money’ by age fifteen.

Throughout the seventies he travelled and toured in England and the United Sates, as well as touring New Zealand extensively, performing live and in the studio.

Neil spent most of the ‘80s based in New Zealand, writing, playing in house bands and honing his skills as a recording engineer and producer.

During the nineties he enjoyed a long association with The Rodger Fox Band and continued to record and enjoyed working with ‘stars’ touring New Zealand.

Neil Hannan is a bassist and producer with a broad resume of music, having played every type of gig from rock to classical and jazz to country. He has done a mass of session work and has years of experience in live music.

He plays bass in many local popular bands including Shane Cortese Class of '58. Coup d'Etat, Hello Sailor, Hammond Gamble Band, and Midge Marsden Band.

Johnny has been actively involved as a drummer in the live music scene since the late '70's.

He has played with many well-known NZ artists including Greg Johnson, Rikki Morris, Graham Brazier and Tom Sharplin and has toured with John Rowles and Gerry & The Pacemakers. His range is diverse, covering Celtic music, rock 'n' Roll through to rock.

Big Band has featured strongly throughout his music career.

Johnny is a Musician who is passionate about playing the drums whether it is live or in the studio.

Guru of jazz improvisation and jazz theory, saxophonist Pete France has played at jazz festivals and concerts throughout New Zealand with the Shane Cortese' and The Class of 58, Rodger Fox Big Band, One Million Dollars, King Kapisi, Natalie Cole, Randy Crawford and many others.

He was the winner of the Daily Telegraph Young Jazz Musician in 1993. Pete France has played professionally all around New Zealand, Australia, UK, Europe, Asia, as well as performances at the Monterey Jazz festival and other international jazz festivals.

He has studied saxophone under Jean Toussaint (of Jazz Messengers fame) and continues to share his knowledge by teaching Saxophone, Jazz Theory, Improvisation and Jazz Combo at Massey University’s Albany campus.

Frankie Stevens as the Master of Ceremonies (MC), who has performed at 2 previous NZADDs in 2007 and 2009, will also perform at the New Zealand Annual Dinner & Dance 2014 on Saturday, 4 October 2014, at the Grand Ballroom of the Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

Frankie’s professional career began at the age of 16 when he moved to Sydney, Australia to join a group called "Peter Nelson and the Castaways".

During his solo period, he recorded a number of successful songs, one song in particular "My Elusive Dreams" became a major New Zealand hit. It held the No.1 spot on the charts for 3 weeks and managed to stay in the top 20 for 2 months.

In 1970, Frankie moved to London where he became something of a minor sensation winning the talent show 'Opportunity Knocks' six times in a row.

1971 saw him move to Las Vegas where a contract to appear for five weeks as a featured act in Tessie O'Shea's London Music Hall Variety Show at the World Famous Sand's Hotel turned into a 32 week season.

Over the next few years Stevens toured or appeared with number of International stars, Olivia Newton John, Shirley Bassey, Milton Berle, Sammy Davis Jnr, just to name a few.

In 1972 an opportunity arose for Stevens to join what was regarded at the time as New Zealand's best International show band, "Mary and the Maoris" (formerly the Maori Hi-Five) the group was starring in their own show at the Nassau Beach Hotel in the Bahamas.

1974 saw him sign a 3 year contract with CBS Records in London. During this period he also appeared at the world-renowned "Talk of the Town" for a 5-week season where he starred in his own show.

After Europe, Stevens embarked on a tour of Japan's major cities, anchoring the first half of the show for one of the world's great performers "Shirley Bassey".

1976 saw him move to Honolulu Hawaii, where for the next 5 years he appeared in his own show for 8 months of the year at the magnificent Royal Hawaiian Hotel in the beautiful Monarch Showroom.

During his Hawaiian stay he featured in one of the most successful TV cop shows of the day, "Hawaii Five O" and played a Russian spy in a CBS Movie of the Week called M.Station Hawaii which was directed by Hawaii Five O's Jack Lord. During the Hawaiian off-season he performed in Europe, mainland USA and Canada.

Since 1982, Stevens has resided in his homeland New Zealand where he once owned and operated one of New Zealand's major Nightclub Restaurants, "Chips". He also managed to fit in his own T.V series for TVNZ as well as trips to Japan, Australia, and the USA.

In 1994, Stevens was invited to appear in Harry M. Miller's New Zealand's touring theatre production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" in the role of the High Priest "Caiaphas".

In 1998 he was invited to join the New Zealand Millennium Office (NZMO) as their events coordinator for the upcoming millennium celebrations, this office was responsible for ensuring that New Zealand received maximum exposure from all Government sponsored events before during and after the year 2000.

Since 2000 Stevens has been constantly on the road travelling throughout New Zealand, Australia and to many other parts of the world such as Malaysia, the United States, and the Bahamas where he has performed in numerous Corporate Events, acting in an MC role or as a performer.
