Cannes Film Festival 2015
Chopard celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Palme d’Or,
the Festival’s legendary trophy, with the allure of gold

2015 marks the 60th anniversary of the Palme d’Or. Official partner to the festival and creator of the most prestigious film trophy in the world since 1998, Chopard is celebrating this event by launching jewellery collections inspired by the curves of the Palme in ethical Fairmined gold.

Other highlights of this Festival feature the 15th edition of the Trophée Chopard and a new Haute Joaillerie Red Carpet collection consisting of 68 unique pieces.

Since 1998, Chopard has enjoyed a veritable romance with the Cannes Film Festival. Manufacturing the Palme d’Or in its workshops, adorning the stars for the famous ‘mounting the steps’ ritual, awarding young movie talents and organising some of the most desirable evenings of the fortnight, the Swiss jeweller and watchmaker has become an emblematic figure of the greatest rendezvous in world cinema.

THE CELEBRATED PALME D'OR OR GOLDEN PALM TROPHY

The Palme d’Or celebrates its 60th anniversary
The quintessential symbol of the Festival, the Palme d’Or is also the result of the exceptional relationship that unites the Swiss jeweller with the Cannes event.

Redesigned in 1998 by Caroline Scheufele – Co-President and Artistic Director – at the request of Pierre Viot, then President of the event, the new interpretation of the trophy cemented the beginning of a partnership that has been continuously strengthened over the years.

In 2014, for the first time, the legendary “jewel” made by hand in Chopard’s workshops was manufactured from certified “Fairmined” gold, fair trade gold mined in strict compliance with economic, social and environmental regulations.

The creation of the Palme d’Or in Fairmined gold was part of the approach initiated by Chopard in 2013 aimed at encouraging sustainable development in the luxury sector. Chopard thus joined Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge and began its “Journey towards Sustainable Luxury”

In addition to the precious Palme, Chopard’s craftsmen create “mini” Palmes, also made from Fairmined gold,  the award for best actor and best actress, as well as the Caméra d’Or and the Trophées Chopard.

Jewellery in ethical gold inspired by the Palme
In tribute to the 60th anniversary of the legendary trophy, Chopard has designed two jewellery lines inspired by the Palme d’Or. In the Joaillerie version, these Green Carpet Collection creations in 18ct Fairmined white gold boast magnificent marquise-cut diamonds reminiscent of palm leaves.

The diffusion line, for easy everyday wear, presents polished curves in 18ct Fairmined yellow gold directly inspired by the plant jewel and its finely veined leaves in particular. The latter will be launched on the 17th May at the Chopard Rooftop, during a lunch attended by Poppy Delevingne.

2015 also marks the 15th edition of the Trophée Chopard, in partnership with Variety magazine. On the 15th May, American actress Julianne Moore, 2014 Oscar award winner for best actress for Still Alice, and godmother of this ceremony, accompanied by Pierre Lescure, President of the Festival, and Thierry Frémaux, Délégué Général, will award the 15th Trophées Chopard to two particularly promising young talents in international cinema: Lola Kirke and Jack O’Connell.

With this award created in 2001, the Geneva watchmaker-jeweller, in partnership with the Festival, makes an active contribution to the artistic promotion of the Cannes event whilst affirming its support for film creation.

In order to celebrate this 15th anniversary in an appropriate manner, Chopard has invited former laureates pursuing brilliant careers to La Croisette, which means that Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Blanca Suarez, Eduardo Noriega, Liya Kebede, Jeremy Irvine and Niels Schneider, to name but a few, will grace the evening with their presence.

The choice of laureates has been made by a jury of film professionals in partnership with Variety magazine: actress Elizabeth Banks, producer Morten Tyldum, producers Jerry Weintraub, Ted Hope and Steve Gaydos, Executive Editor of Variety, and Caroline Scheufele. The awards ceremony will be followed by an evening in honour of the 2015 laureates at the Chopard Rooftop.

GOLD evening event – May 18th 2015
Chopard’s gala evening will take place at Port Canto. In line with the gold theme chosen by Chopard for all its activities during the Festival, the GOLD evening event will take guests to a reconstructed gold mine. The highlight of this event will be an exceptional private concert given by Robbie Williams.

Red Carpet Collection 2015
Chopard loves actresses. It was with them in mind that in 2007, for the 60th anniversary of the Festival, Caroline Scheufele created the first Haute Joaillerie Red Carpet Collection consisting of 60 unique pieces. Since then, every year, Chopard has launched new creations in this flagship collection, within which the number of pieces matches that of each new annual edition of the Festival.

In 2015, for the 68th edition of the Festival, no fewer than 68 unique pieces will showcase the talent and skill of the craftsmen of the Geneva-based jeweller during the ascent of the legendary staircase.

Graced with exquisite colour combinations, the Red Carpet Collection 2015 continues its dazzling chromatic display through arabesques of finely carved precious stones reminiscent of the most delicate weaving. Like a diamond ribbon, 18ct white or rose gold sets diamond and coloured stones twirling to spectacular effect.

The Chopard Rooftop at the Hotel Martinez
Overlooking La Croisette, the top floor of the Hotel Martinez will once again be the venue for the Chopard Rooftop throughout this year’s Festival. The Maison will host its guests in this exclusive, elegant setting entirely decorated in green and gold in collaboration with Italian companies Flexform and Unopiù.

The light-filled suite is extended by a large terrace offering an exceptional view over Cannes, La Croisette and the Palais des Festivals. This timeless space will beat to the rhythm of the Festival while providing an escape from the frenzy of La Croisette. We suspect there will be magical moments on the horizon…

Thanks to Chopard’s partners, guests will be able to enjoy a Nespresso or a bottle of Nestlé Waters from early on in the morning. Lunch will be accompanied by rosé wine from Château de Miraval and white and red wine from Château Monestier La Tour.

In the evening, stars will be able to admire the view while sipping a glass of Boizel champagne or “Gold”, a cocktail specially designed for the occasion by Grey Goose and enhanced with fine gold leaf flakes, while enjoying the sunshine thanks to Lancaster products.

Closing ceremony – May 24th 2015 – Palais des Festivals
On this evening, and this year more than ever, the true star will be… the Palme d’Or, created in the Chopard workshops. Celebrating its 60th anniversary, this precious trophy in Fairmined gold will unquestionably be the most sought-after “jewel” at the Festival.
