The Palms Retreat Samui, a wellness resort that offers a healthy lifestyle based upon the cornerstones of provenance, integrity and local experiences, is partnering with the island’s most renowned health specialists and wellness practitioners to create unique and personalised guest programmes in line with its mantra, “It’s all about YOU”.

The three, seven and 10 day (or longer) detox programmes provide effective and practical strategies to alleviate toxins, as well as facilitate weight loss and also maintain a healthy weight.

Our two initiatives - Easy Slim and Easy Detox – include a menu of daily smoothies (created from 100% natural Thai herbs and other natural  ingredients), together with a combination of yoga, meditation, physical activity, massage and indigenous Thai experiences -  all of which come together to  nourish both body and mind.

The Palms Retreat is located within a charming private estate in the northeast corner of Samui, close to beautiful, white sand Cheong Mon Beach. Each spacious 800 sq m compound has three air-conditioned villas, a spacious communal lounge and dining area and a 10 metre swimming pool.

The grounds are literally teeming with exotic flowers, fruits and colourful trees,  making this a perfect location for stressed out individuals looking to enjoy some “me time” in tranquil surroundings.  We also have a tennis court on site and free wi-fi throughout.

All inclusive daily rates include accommodation in spacious en-suite rooms (some with both in- and outdoor showers) a choice of one of the two “Easy” detox programmes, yoga and meditation sessions, a daily 60-minute daily massage, daily guided morning walk, introduction to SuperCharge Yourself (a peak performance program), fresh cold pressed juices, complimentary herbal teas 24/7,  and, for those on the Easy Detox regime, healthy cuisine created from totally organic ingredients sourced from local farms and markets.

Individual plans for each guest are led by the retreat’s General Manager, Ron Veldhuis, a certified wellness consultant, athletic and health coach, and devoted yoga instructor.

He works hand in hand with Graham Rowe, Chief Naturopath  at Amrita, who designed the “Easy” detox programs;  Dr Will Engelhardt, who specialises in functional & physical medicine, counselling  and disease prevention; Khun Lat of Island Organics Micro Farm (Samui’s only truly 100% organic farm);  and her husband, micro farmer (and award-winning photographer), Cameron Hansen, whose stunning work adorns some of the walls at the Retreat.

In addition to the activities above, guests can add personal training in an air-conditioned gym, kayaking, scuba diving/snorkeling, beauty therapies, personal meditation and yoga sessions, and many other activities.

Founder of The Palms Retreat, Susan Field, says: “We wanted to move away from the “one size fits all” detox programmes currently available in many resorts in Samui and instead work with the most highly qualified professionals to create a retreat that is personalised, offers amazing local “island experiences”, uses organic products with authentic provenance and is situated in a beautiful and peaceful environment.

"We believe we have achieved our vision with The Palms Retreat, which will take guests on a truly unique and life-changing  journey.”

All-inclusive rates start from USD229 (Thai Baht 7,350) per person, per night, depending on room category, season and selected programme. For two people sharing a room, the second person enjoys a 35% discount off the relevant rate.

The Palms Retreat has a special 20% discount 'opening offer' throughout July to celebrate its launch.

About the Practitioners at The Palms Retreat

Ron Veldhuis has been based in Samui for many years and has a deep passion and understanding of authentic Thai culture through his close collaboration with indigenous artisans and communities.  As such, he conducts tours to “hidden corners” of Samui, way off the beaten track, taking guests on a variety of fascinating outings, including local coconut farms, foundation schools, animal sanctuaries, an artisanal silversmith, and cooking classes at Lat and Cameron’s organic farm. Other excursions  include exploring the source of Samui’s famous waterfalls and trips that showcase  the outstanding natural beauty of the island.

According to Ron: “Our detox and rejuvenation programmes encourage guests to achieve their personal goals and heighten their ability to perform better, improve concentration and avoid potentially chronic diseases by learning how to respect food and its effects on the body.”

Resort Manager, Minah Pohchi, grew up in Southern Thailand where her grandparents were naturopaths. “They didn’t study academically, but practiced old style herbal remedies for family, friends and neighbours,” she says. As a result, Minah is inspired by nature and healing, and has spent many years self-coaching on the benefits of using indigenous plants and remedies for curing  various ailments. A keen gardener, she shares her knowledge and passion in her  weekly “Magic Garden” tour, pointing out edible fruits, plants, herbs and their uses that grow in abundance at our resort.

Dr. Will, who has worked at numerous five star resorts in Thailand, coaching and counseling thousands of international clients while providing unique insight into health and wellness due to his strong foundation in naturalism and ecology, offers various courses treatments at The Palms Retreat. These include physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, cranio sacral therapy, Chi Nei Tsang & visceral manipulation, counseling, hypnosis, stress management techniques, meditation and metabolic training, plus  complimentary sessions on body ecology.
