Rare watches, Fine Jewels and Modern Art

Monte-Carlo  -  This third Monegasque Opus which was closely monitored by our collectors, friends and amateurs present radiated with exceptional collections and confirmed our anchorage on the Rock of Monaco.

“We are proud to have proposed a sale of such richness - of fine jewelry, exceptional watches, and even works of art, with superb collections coming from remarkable origins. With Monaco Legend Group, we recorded an exceptional amount of almost 8 million euros in business volume, demonstrating our substantial growth in Monte-Carlo.”
Romain Réa
CEO

It was in the effervescent summer atmosphere of Monaco that we were thrilled to present such exceptional pieces during our sales on the 17th, 18th and 19th of July – carried out in partnership with Monaco Legend Group.

A full room of buyers – with standing room only - and multiple on-line and telephone-orders brought in buyers from all over the world.  Europe was particularly present – in particular Monaco and Switzerland, with the USA and then Asia following closely on their heels.

The tally climbed almost to €8 million! An outstanding result, largely due to the unmatched choice of pieces our teams of experts carefully selected for this sale.

Fine Jewels

The exquisite necklace in white gold and natural pearls (Lot 76) signed by Boucheron which sold for 386,400 .

Without a doubt Van Cleef & Arpels shined with the sale of their two magnificent bracelets – embellished with mystery-set precious gems – lot 256 mounted with rubies, sold for 341 320€ and lot 257, set with spectacular sapphires, was sold for 218 960€. We also applaud the sale of the magnificent highly flexible Van Cleef & Arpels emerald necklace of the 1980’s (lot 73) which was taken away for 173 880€.

Rare Watches

We were not surprised to see the prices soar for the magnificent collection of clocks of the 1930’s such as the rare Cartier, rectangular-shaped, lacquered mantle clock with cut-corners of 1931 (Lot 87) which was sold for 245 000€.

In the same way, the Vacheron Constantin, Vergé and Jacques Lacloche (Lot 89) – a fabulous Chinese style desk clock created in a pure Art Deco form and supported by carved pillars composed of Lapis lazuli, marble and onyx and inset with cabochon emeralds – was sold for over 200 000€.  The sale of these two historical museum-quality pieces shows how informed our clientele is.
As usual, the Rolex timepieces literally set the bidding on fire. The Rolex Sea-Dweller Comex, reference 1665, belonging to Yves Giran – medical diver from the mission Hydra IV – (Lot 109), went for 118 496€.  The steel “Red Submariner” Meter First - ref 1680 (Lot 27) - gathered over twice its lowest estimation, ie: 33 488€.

The Daytona Steel, Ref. 116500LN (Lot 285) with its rare white dial sold for 22 000€.  The Daytona 6264 with its Paul Newman “Panda” dial (Lot 348 A) created much enthusiasm on the floor:  after a battle between the telephone and floor bidders, an Internet bidder finally carried it away for 243 432€.

The bustle for Patek Philippe was not lacking for the Aquanaut Ref. 5060 (Lot 176) which was sold for 12 889€, over three times its lowest estimated value. The Nautilus 5712 in white gold (Lot 119) went for 33 488€ and the pink-gold WorldTime with an enamel dial, (Lot 86) was sold for 96 600€.

Works of Art

We were pleased to present works of art, especially Modern paintings, such as the beautiful Contemporary collections of Jean-Paul Riopelle (1923-2002) and Syed Haider Raza (1922-2016).

Jean-Paul Riopelle had given its former owner a powerful triptych (Lot 294), as a wedding gift in 1974.  The abstract intensity of the work created by its thickly painted lines charmed a collector who purchased the work for 45 499€ - more than 4 times its lowest estimate.

The paintings of Saied Haider Raza present an abundance of colors in honor of Indian Cosmology and are also symbols of a union between Indian and French culture. This impressive collection was beautifully sold, for instance, the lot 309 was sold at 90 999€.

55th Anniversary Porsche & Daytona

In contrary to the former sales, it was essentially European collectors who invested in the “55 Porsche 911 & Daytona Anniversary Auction” and more precisely the French and Monegasques - and of course, when there are Rolex on sell, aIl were Italians.
The floor was packed, collectors from all over the world came to battle for the forty lots which were up for sale.

Among the automobiles we presented it is indispensable to mention the rare white PORSCHE 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 (lot 33) with an impressive track record – it used to belong to Franz-Joseph Weisskopf – which found a new owner for over €1.2 million: the first millionaire bidding of the auction!

However it was lot 31 which teased the curiosity of all the attendees:  the PORSCHE 911 by ORLINSKI, the first moving sculpture of this famous French artist.  After a battle between floor bidders, it was finally a mysterious telephone buyer who took it away for over 200 000€ ! All profits are going to be donated to the “Les Rois du Monde” association.

As for the Daytona, the splendid 16520 “PORCELAINE DIAL AND FLOATING LOGO”  (Lot 34), was purchased for almost double the lowest appraised value:  118 496€. The 6263/6241 Paul Newman with the screwed-in push-pieces (Lot 38) went for 427 400€.

Finally – and only because it is impossible to speak of all the sales that took place – our 6241/6263 with its superb silver “T Swiss T” dial (Lot 36) was taken for 83 720€.
