It was such a pleasure watching the more matured women parading on the catwalk!
I have spent all my life looking at 18 somethings preening and nubile beauties smirking as they dream of winning the crown and a life of happiness that comes after meeting and marrying Prince Charming! Well, the 16 finalists that night may not have won beauty titles in their youth but have certainly found their Princes Charming and have been swept away into Happy Ever After Land!
Now it was the 'oldies but goodies' turn to enjoy the spotlight and applause!Just look at this bevy of beauties! They all looked stunning and did not show their age at all!
The turn of mothers taking to the catwalk in style and aplomb! Indeed these mothers could give their daughters a run for the money! Most were composed and confident. After all, if you had been a school teacher or lecturer or supervisor or fulltime mum running after your brood, going on stage and answering questions should be a breeze!
It is more interesting watching women who were between 45 and 65 years taking part in a beauty contest rather than teenagers and 2-somethings doing the same thing! And each of the 16 finalists had to be a mother as everyone must have given birth at least once. Some women tend to let go after 50 thinking they are past their prime but these contestants are living proof beauty can begin after 50 or even 60! The most important thing is to look great for your age.

Very seldom did I see a male belly dancer. The dancer in purple at right is the daughter of Mrs Classic Malaysia International World 2010 Mrs Lim Siew Cheng!
The 2010 winners here are Mrs Malaysia International World from a different pageant. The age limit for this contest was 30 to 60 which is deemed too wide ranging and unfair as the winners tended to be 30-somethings!

A 60 year old cannot compare or compete with a 16 or 20 year old so do not bother. But you can look a decade younger! This is what everyone should aspire---always look 10 years younger than your biological age!
"Any Malaysian woman aged 45 and 65 with at least 1 child can participate," explains franchise owner Beverly Tan who started Inyernational World Pageants in Singapore in 2000. She named the company TKS & Sons in honour of her father. "The company has grown from humble beginnings based in Singapore to representatives throughout Southeast Asia. The programmes we produce are catalysts for friendship, tourism and commerce and a platform to recognise outstanding South East Asians." Beverly Tan looked splendid in a couture gown with a tail to rival Princess Diana's train and an exotic hairdo inspired by ancient Chinese heroine Hua Mulan.

While the usual Miss Malaysia beauty contests feature contestants in the prime of their life with everyone looking shapely, slim and svelte, the Mrs Malaysia versions are more interesting since they are considered middle aged and not exactly in the bloom of youth. Yet most flaunted a presentable figure!
Only one needed to lose 7kg while a few could do with 1 or 2 kilos less but all looked great on stage. None was skinny and scrawny which was fine as the poverty-stricken, waifish look has been passe for the past five years. Even young models must not only look slim but healthy but you cannot achieve this if you are size zero! Protruding bones, flat chests and hips that look like cadavers look dreadful and any fashion house that use such models or encourage them to diet should be closed immediately.
Suffice then to say the 16 finalists for the 5 main titles received much applause from an appreciative audience that saw their husbands, children, relatives, friends and supporters turning up in force.
Held at HGH Hall in Jalan Sentul, the turnout was remarkable and there must be at least 700. Of the 16 finalists, 6 were selected for the last round.
Apart from the 5 main titles, there were 15 subsidiary titles. The second runner-up in Elite Classic Mrs Malaysia Earth was #5 Jenny Lim, 1st runner-up was #4 Winnie Loh and winner of Elite Classic Mrs Malaysia Earth was #12 Amy Kui. Winner of Elite Classic Mrs Malaysia Southeast Asia 2011 was #8 Jan Sit Yow Ying while the top title of Elite Classic Mrs Malaysia International World 2011 went to #10 Irene Wong Juat Kim. The sole finalist who came in sixth and did not win anything was #1 Hee Wee Heng who was the oldest at 61 and mother of 3 children. She smiled throughout and was the most sporting who brought the roof down with her performance during talent time. I thought she deserved to win as being 61 and still looking fabulous is a major accomplishment!
But I was not a judge. Neither was VIP Guest of Honour Datuk Michael Chong, Head of Public Service and Complaint Department of MCA. I sat at the same table as Datuk Michael Chong, his lovely wife and other VIPS including famous songbird Datuk Khatijah Ibrahim, Mr Chan Kim Leong, Datin Maylene Yong, Datuk Peter Yong, Mr Lim Hoe Guan and Mr and Mrs Paul Lee.
Joining us now and then were co-organiser Carrie Lee of White Fairy and the current Miss Chinese Cosmos 2010 Teresa Zhang who sang 'I Dreamed a Dream' on stage for the final line-up before the top 6 were announced. The organiser was 2009/10 winner Mrs Lim Siew Cheng who at 60 looked too fabulous for words! With a great figure, good height and natural elegance, she was the embodiment of a matured beauty. As she sat next to me for a while, I took the chance on your behalf to check her out.
Mrs Lim Siew Cheng, yoga teacher, is a natural beauty. When she smiles, there are fine lines around her eyes which proves she has not done plastic surgery. Her photos in the souvenir magazine appear to have been air-brushed which was unnecessary as she looked fabulous in real life! She also bore an uncanny resemblance to another renowned, but younger beauty, Winnie Sin of Rafflesia Pearl Centre. But was it any surprise Mrs Lim Siew Cheng turned out to be the aunt of Winnie Sin! No wonder they looked alike!
Mrs Lim Siew Cheng whose company Yinzi Yoga was the main organiser, looked and acted the part of a beauty queen and diva, looking resplendent in a magnificent red ballgown worthy of Hollywood's red carpets with an 8 inch high crown.
Datin Maylene Yong, 55, ever slim, ever beautiful with a voice to match, was awarded 3 honorary titles since she should not participate in such contests as she would win hands down. Beverly Tan
awarded her 3 titles; Mrs Elite Community Ambassador 2011/12 for her charity work, Mrs Malaysia Image Ambassador 2011/12 and Mrs Cover Woman 2011/12. Datin Maylene changed her outfit twice and ended the evening with a crown as she richly deserved.
