FINALLY H & M HAS ARRIVED AT OUR SHORES!

Considering every capital worth its name has one or two or three H & M stores, Kuala Lumpur has now joined the rank and we must thank Tan Sri Francis Yeoh for persuading this global giant to set up shop at his Lot 10.

Zara is also located at Lot 10 so there should be some pretty intense elbowing to persuade us to offload our ringgit so we have nothing to lose and everything to gain with healthy competition. Like MNG and Zara, H & M sells fabulous attire at equally fabulous prices so now we can all look divine while paying earthbound prices.

H &M opened its doors to some 1,500 VIP guests so if you were not invited, this means you should consider migrating due to the humiliation. The crowd was surprisingly calm and well behaved and they was no jostling or crushing each other.

I assumed there would be a fashion show but surprisingly there was none!

I attended the Debenhams opening at Starhill Gallery which also happens to be owned by Tan Sri Francis Yeoh and his family and there was a monumental fashion show. Maybe they decided to change tack though most guests were flummoxed a so-called fashion-forward store's gala VIP Opening did not include the obligatory fashion show.

But no matter!

Guess what---the guests were the fashion models as most came dressed to kill and thrill in killer heels. I of course was the star as usual and as proof, many guests asked if they could be photographed with me. So I had more than my share of the 15 minutes of fame as expounded by Andy Warhol.

I was particularly impressed by the many guys who came in V-necks, carried large bags, hung around men, wore high heels and  the occasional make-up. I scanned the store for the fashion police sent by the authorities to doubtless arrest them for confusing the sexes but there was none and all went swimmingly well.

To many, the guests were the fashion models as everyone stared at everyone. Fashionistas and glamazons and borizons (as in boring dressers because  I counted several) mingled and tingled while clutching flutes of champagne.

I could not believe such generosity as the champagne flowed nonstop from a bottomless pit. And not some cheap plonk or sparkling wine masquerading as champers but the real McCoy---Moet & Chandon! I was guzzling as many glasses as possible for fear they would run out but was informed there were 200 bottles and more on standby.

As an Opening Night treat, everything was 20% off! 

No wonder almost everyone was carrying a H & M shopping bag emblazoned with the words 'Shopping Bag' just so you know what you were doing. Maureen Ooi of Madam Kwan bought some RM 2,500 worth of garments and vowed they were too cheap for words!

So many young and impossibly chic guys and gals were there anyone over 35 was deemed dinosauric. Lucky I am under 35 or else I would be sent to Coventry.

Canapes floated around and many wondered how much Tan Sri Francis Yeoh had to spend. Just as we thought things could not get better, there was a goodie bag for everyone as we left. Inside was a H & M magazine, an orange leather passport holder and luggage tag. Not the sort airlines and travel agents dole out to you which you discard within 3 minutes but a gorgeous designer tag by Anna Dello Russo! It came inside a blue presentation box like a jewelled drawer with tassel and the tag is shaped as a golden crown with orange stones---perfect for a queen and we know there are many out there!

Of course this is a designer tag and no fashionista or stylista would dream of using it on their checked-in suitcase as it would be pilfered instantly by the baggage guys. So it should be used on your messenger or handbag for instant glamour! In case you are an ignoramus, Anna Dello Russo is a cult figure (she is still alive and kicking unlike icons like Gianni Versace, Christian Dior or Yves Saint Laurent) and an acclaimed creator/stylist. Having worked as fashion editor at Vogue Italy, she is now creative consultant and editor at large for Vogue Japan (the Japs adore her you see).

Anna Dello Russo has only marginally fewer shoes than Imelda Marcos at a mere 4,000 (well, I have around 500 pairs so I have some way to go) pairs. She is collaborating with H & M and will release her collection of accessories on 4 October 2012 so this luggage tag is NEW, NEW, NEW and hotter than hot! I am preserving mine in its box in pristine condition so it will be part of the Kee Hua Chee Fashion Museum.

 H & M PREVIEWS ITS FIRST STORE IN MALAYSIA TO GREAT APPLAUSE

Last night, H&M opened its doors to more than one thousand of Kuala Lumpur’s hottest celebrities, personalities and members of the media for the exclusive pre-launch party of its first full concept store in Malaysia located in Lot 10, Bukit Bintang.

Guests were invited to shop till they dropped at the gleaming three-storey, 36,000 square feet store and were treated to free-flowing champagne and delectable canapés while experiencing the range of collections available at H&M’s Malaysian flagship store. H&M debuts in Malaysia with the latest collections from Autumn Winter 2012 – key looks for women showcase sleek and sculptural silhouettes matched with bold shapes and confident decoration while men can expect sharp-suited 60s silhouettes where layering, texture and colours bring tailoring traditions right into the 21st century.

From key players about town to Kuala Lumpur’s fashion elite, the event was graced by Malaysia’s most notable names. Amongst the celebrities were newlywed actors Awal Ashaari and Scha Al-Yahya, international singer Yuna Zarai, Redzha Minhat, Soo Wincci, Belinda Chee, Elfira Loy, Mizz Nina, fashion “It” girls, Sereni Linggi and Shentel Lee and regional blogger Ringo Tan of Cheeserland.

Malaysia’s top DJ duo Goldfish and Blink hit the decks and wowed the crowd with non-stop, high-energy tracks ranging from popular music to R&B to house that spun late into the evening creating the ultimate trendy shopping atmosphere.

H&will open in Lot 10, Bukit Bintang on September 22^nd at 11am and will award RM500 to the person first in line. The second to fifth customers in queue will receive RM200 vouchers while the next 300 in line will be given RM50 vouchers.
