Starhill Gallery, Kuala Lumpur’s ultimate city centre destination for lifestyle, fashion, beauty, art and food, is playing host once more to the glamorous ‘A Journey Through Time’ watch and jewellery showcase which will be held for its sixth consecutive year, from November 22nd to December 1st, 2012. The event has become Asia’s largest and most decadent luxury watch and jewellery showcase.

Themed ‘The Art of Time’, over 120 leading brands will participate with luxurious watches and jewellery pieces amounting to approximately RMB 2 billion in value are to be exhibited. The 10 days of festivities at the exquisite event are set to be bigger than ever before. ‘A Journey Through Time’ has grown from strength to strength each year to include rare private collections, first-in-market editions and exquisite pieces from brands such as global watch and jewellery brands that include Rolex, Frank Muller, Mouawad, Richard Mille, Bedat & Co, Van Cleef & Arpels, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Omega, Carrera Y Carrera and Boucheron.

Also, for the first time in Asia, world renowned brands Maitres du Temps, Garrard and Gubelin boutiques will be launched in Starhill Gallery during the event. Throughout A Journey Through Time, fashion parades, haute cuisine and performances that represent Malaysia’s creative and artistic culture, plus huge international headline musical artists, will all take place in Starhill Gallery.

A Journey Through Time will come to a grand conclusion with a Gala Dinner and Starhill Gallery’s Watch of the Year Awards. Determined by an esteemed judging panel, nominated watchmakers will have a chance to be crowned the best of 2012 under seven categories including the coveted “Tourism Malaysia Most Revered Watch of the Year” won in 2011 by Van Cleef & Arpels. Workshops and talks from experts in luxurious watches will take place throughout the event to present enthusiasts with the opportunity to discover how each watch was crafted and what makes each timepiece unique.

Anticipation is building ahead of announcements for the opening and closing events for the 2012 edition as last year’s event had a live performance from the legendary multiple Grammy Award winner Julio Iglesias. Guests on the night included Dato’ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen, Minister of Tourism and Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr.) Francis Yeoh, Managing Director of YTL Corporation Berhad as well as an extensive and elaborate guest list that includes the Royal Family and staples from the Forbes Asia Billionaire list.

A Journey Through Time is endorsed by Tourism Malaysia as the event helps raise the whole country’s profile as a destination for buying luxury goods, especially to the Chinese market. Year after year Malaysia has grown to become an enticing and exciting holiday destination for Chinese tourists. According to the China Outbound Tourism Research Institute’s analysis of China travellers, Malaysia was the fourth most popular overseas destination for Chinese travelers in 2011 with 1.25 million visitors throughout the year, with shopping accounting for 37.8 percent of overall spending.

Earlier in 2012, visas for Malaysia also became a lot easier to obtain for Chinese visitors, meaning 2012 is looking at over 1.3 million Chinese tourists.
