A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE OF THE SUN (YES I AM REPEATING BUT JUST IN CASE) IS SO RARE MOST HUMANS GO THROUGH LIFE WITHOUT EXPERIENCING ONE.
The next one will be in 2017 (provided the world does not end in December 2012) somewhere over America but meanwhile, here are images taken in Queensland showing locals and tourists all agog over this lifetime experience.
The moment the moon completely blocked the sun though the corona was still visible, giving the impression someone had inked out the sun in the sky with a marker pen
Looks like a badly developed photo or the light bulb was switched on accidentally during the photo processing but this is how the corona looked like as the moon covered the sun. Taken in Michaelmas Cay by Ben Southall
Dawn suddenly turned to dusk and then night!
Would you believe this was in the early morning? Everything went pitch black except for the strange, glowing orb
Day turning into night seemingly within minutes
Final, spectacular burst of the sun's rays before the moon completely obliterated the sun light, as if someone had rudely switched off the sky light!
The total eclipse of the sun this morning at 6.38am local time in Queensland, Australia. I know it looks like something your 10 year old nephew can cooked up but you had to be there to experience the awesome feeling.
Here the moon completely blocked the sun so while you can see the halo surrounding the black spot that was the moon, the entire sky was dark like night
The moon has so totally blocked the sun even the famous corona has virtually vanished! Scary! Birds which started singing promptly went back to sleep. Sunflowers started to droop again and many timed their sex to ejaculate their sperm at this precise moment so they can hopefully conceived a Solar Eclipse Baby!
Even if you failed, at least they had fun trying! I could hear the screams of ecstasy in Kl as many red blooded Aussie men shot out load after load of sperm into their women's chibai
The sky was pitch black. So black you couldn't see yur hand in front of you. Here the moon slowly moved, allowing a mini crescent to form
The richies went air ballooning for what was the same view so it was a waste of money (or am I being Sour Grapes?). Here the moon was slowly sneaking and snaking up to swallow the sun
Well was that high drama or what?
So now let us rewind. This is before the eclipse as the sun rose in Michaelmas Cay taken by Ben Southall
Peasants stood on beaches to witness the phenomena. The wealthy hired boats to take them out into the sea while the very rich rented helicopters. Of course the smartest simply sat on their balconies with champagne and toasted themselves as the moon swallowed the sun or timed to have multiple orgasms at exactly 6.38 am
All armed and ready for the solar eclipse of the millennium
Breaking dawn; Robert Pattinson and Kirsten Stewart should be here
The brilliant blue sky would soon turned black as hell
Morning has broken...
But not for long
The day started to turn to twilight
Luxury liners cruised into Michaelmas Cay to see the total eclipse of the sun this morning at 6.38 am 14/11/12
Here we go...the moon, long the poor cousin, now took centrestage as it usurped the mighty sun. This couple luxuriating in their deck chairs were the smartest of the lot as I bet they simply relaxed and enjoyed the spectacle without the pressure of any equipment!
Safety first!
Don't even blink
I would have thought our God-given eyes were enough to see the sun which is rather conspicuous in the sky
Flying skyhigh for a better view. Hope this guy remembered what happened to Icarus
Camp fest
Michaelmas Cay in Queensland was filled with sky gazers
Keeping their eyes peeled
These 3 Malaysians took precautions so they wouldn't go blind later
The biggerer the betterer I say!
I love this guy's sunnies
Party time!
The view's the same on water as it was from land, mate
Er, shouldn't they be pointing skywards? Oh ya, at the rising sun!
Away from the maddening crowd...
Look Ma, no hands
I wonder why everyone flocked to the beach at Cairns. Surely they could see the sun being obliterated by the moon from the road or toilet window?
This chick was still bedazzled after the sun returned to the sky
