The “MACAU Appreciation Dinner” was held 12.12.12 at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Kuala Lumpur for over 120 Malaysian travel industry partners, media friends and Amigos Macau (Macau-tourism specialists) and hosted by the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO).

Tunku Dato’ Seri Iskandar Bin Tunku Abdullah, MGTO Representative in Malaysia, took the opportunity to thank the travel trade partners and the media for their support and contribution in 2012. He also added that Malaysian visitor arrivals into Macau accounted for a total of 229,706 for the period of January – October this year, placing Malaysia as the seven largest source market for Macau.

In the year 2012, MGTO continued to promote Macau with various promotional activities and campaigns focusing on events and festivals with GSC video advertisements, outdoor and online contest campaign as well as magazines and TV campaigns to support Amigos in their efforts to promote Macau.

One of the many developments in Macau is the launch of the Sands Cotai Central with a total three hotel brand in 2012 offering the Conrad, Holiday Inn and world largest Sheraton Hotel. The Sands Cotai Central integrated resorts will have a total of 6,000 rooms to offer.

MGTO recently launched the iPhone App named "Experience Macau" with the latest and popular travel information and equipped with the augmented reality (AR) and trip planner functions which enable users to experience Macau freely and easily anytime. The App is provided in English and traditional and simplified Chinese and can be downloaded from the App store on the MGTO website www.macautourism.gov.mo/en/ezone/apps.php. Apps in Android version are planned to be launched in the near future.

The "Experience Macau" App comprises Experience Macau, What's On, Plan Your Trip, Game, Map and AR View. Certain selected attractions are even provided with audio introduction and 360 degrees panorama photos. The App gives information on Macau World Heritage, Museums and Galleries, Shopping, Shows and Entertainment, Hotels and Guest Houses while the The Plan Your Trip and self-design function for own travel itineraries or follow the Suggested Routes for sightseeing in Macau allows users to check in at the designated attractions in the Game.

Earlier this year, MGTO launched the free Audio Guiding Service to cater for visitors with different needs and to increase visitor knowledge about Macau’s tourist attractions and World Heritage sites. The Audio Guiding Service is provided for visitors in six languages at present, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Portuguese, English, Japanese and Korean and is free of charge. The audio device also provides information on wine and the Macau Grand Prix in the Wine Museum and Grand Prix Museum.

Apart from the newly launched services, MGTO will also be celebrating two major events in2013. The Macau International Fireworks Display Contest to be held in the month of 7th September –1st October 2013 will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a Trophy Design and Photography Contest.

The Macau Grand Prix will be celebrating its 60th Diamond Jubilee celebration and event to be held on 14th – 17th November 2013. To increase public awareness for the Macau Grand Prix Celebration, Poster Design Competition" and "Souvenir Design Competition has been launched.
To further enrich the business tourism segment, MGTO has introduced the ‘Wedding Incentive Scheme’ as well as the enhanced version of ‘Student Excursion Incentive Scheme’ starting from 1st November 2012. The incentive scheme will promote Macau’s attraction multi-faceted tourism image as the preferred destination for overseas wedding for wedding couples, wedding planners and related companies.

In addition, the "Student Excursion Incentive Scheme" launched last October has been further enhanced. Starting from 1st November 2012, the scheme increased the amount from MOP 200 to MOP 300 granted for each foreign student for their activities in Macau with a minimum of 50 students and 2 consecutive nights stay. Besides the wedding and the student scheme, the Incentive travel stimulation scheme for organizers or incentive planner will continue.

In the coming year, MGTO will be organizing ‘Macau Festival’ on the 5th – 7th April 2013. The event will be held over a period of three days and set to be the main celebration highlights of the year in Malaysia. This consumer promotion gives an opportunity for consumers to discover Macau’s attractions, activities and entertainments as well as take up special deals on Macau packages.

THE EVENING STARTED WITH 20 DANCERS DRESSED IN TRADITIONAL BLACK PORTUGUESE SUITS AND TIES.
AT FIRST I THOUGHT THEY WERE GRAND HYATT WAITERS AND WAITRESSES! THESE DAYS, HOTELS TEND TO HAVE ELABORATE OPENINGS USING THEIR WAITERS AND WAITRESSES!
BUT THE DANCERS MOVED TOO WELL TO BE SERVING FOOD AND THEY WERE PROFESSIONAL DANCERS THOUGH 20 WAS SUCH A LARGE TROUPE. WONDER HOW MUCH EACH DANCER GETS.

  1. Trekking in Nepal…Family Adventure style
The towering Himalayas are, to many travellers’ minds, the chief reason for visiting

Nepal. The country tumbles steeply down from the 800km stretch of the Himalayan

battlements that forms its northern border, and can claim no fewer than eight of the

world’s ten highest peaks – including, of course, Everest, the highest of them all. The

mountains are more than just physically astonishing, however. The cultures of highland-

dwelling Nepalese peoples are rich and fascinating, and the relaxed, companionable spirit

of trekking life is an attraction in itself. The Himalayas have long exerted a powerful

spiritual pull, too. In Hindu mythology, the mountains are where gods go to contemplate,

while the Sherpas and other mountain peoples hold certain peaks to be the very embodiment

    of deities.
Most visitors to mountain areas stick to a few well-established trekking routes. They have

good reasons for doing so: the classic trails of the Everest region with its famous trails

    like Everest Base

    camp trek
and the 3 high passes are both mind blowing ventures and highly popular in

the world. And Annapurna regions are so popular because they offer close-up views of the

very highest peaks; this includes Annapurna 1 & 2, fishtail peak and Ganesh Himal trek.

Famous treks like the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, Annapurna Base

    camp trek
& the Annapurna Circuit trek are some of the most famous on earth. Dramatic

scenery and fascinating local cultures are most known in this area. Lodges on the main

trails – some as sophisticated as ski chalets, these days – make it possible to go without

carrying a lot of gear or learning Nepali, and without spending too much money, either.

While trekking, you’ll likely eat and sleep for $20–30 a day. For those who put a high

priority on getting away from it all, there are plenty of less-developed routes, of

course, and simply going out of season or taking a side-route off the main trail makes a

    huge difference.
The Helambu and Langtang regions are less striking but conveniently close to Kathmandu,

attracting a little fewer than ten percent of trekkers. The Langtang valley

    trek
& the Ganja-La pass are known trails in this area. This leaves vast areas of

eastern and far western Nepal relatively untrodden by visitors. To hike in these areas

you’ll need either to get set for camping and carry your own supplies, and live like a

local, or pay to join an organized trek with tents and accept the compromises that go

    along with that.
With a good operator, you can anywhere in the wild. A Great Himalayan Trail now runs the

length of highland Nepal – though it will be for some time, if ever, before such a route

    will be serviced by lodges.
Treks in remote far eastern and far western Nepal are mostly restricted to two kinds of

globe trotters, both adventurous in their own way. The majority come on organized camping

treks with agencies – in fact, this is obligatory for those areas that require a permit.

The minority are independent trekkers prepared either to carry tents and food or negotiate

with porters, or to seek food and lodging in local homes and basic lodges. Some great

camping outdoors include the Manaslu circuit Trek, Upper Mustang trek

the Dhaulagiri circuit, Rara lake trek and the great Kangchenjunga trek, both north and

    south.
