I ATTENDED THE LAUNCH OF CARLSBERG CHALLENGER SERIES 2013 LAST SUNDAY 4 AUGUST AND THEN OPENING OF NEW HEST DINING ROOM, LOUNGE AND BAR WHERE THE WORLD'S BEST BEER AKA CARLSBERG IS SERVED.
While no one complains about the name 'Carlsberg', many wondered about the meaning of the word 'hest'.
Being a genius, I know the meaning of 'hest' comes from 'behest' as in 'command', 'order' or 'promise'.
But 'hest' is an ancient word it was probably last used by William Shakespeare in the 16th century.
As for 'hest', many automatically think it is 'heist' which means 'robbery' or large scale theft from big institutions like banks, museums, art galleries or jewellery stores!
Already losers at betting on the wrong horses think Selangor Turf Club is committing daylight robbery so I was hugely amused.
Even worse, 'hest' and 'heist' sounds almost the same just like the Cantonese word for 'crab' and 'cunt'! Just a minor difference in intonation and the there is a world of difference in meaning!
Why not change the name 'Hest' to 'Hero' or 'Gold Horse' or 'Nest' (as in 'nestegg') or Hello but maybe not as it can be shortened to 'Hell'!
Then I realised 'hest' is 'horse' in Danish. But hello, Malaysia was colonised by the Brits, not Danes so they should just name it 'Hist' rather than 'hest'. Worse, 'hest' is pronounced as 'hist' though of course no Malaysian knows this unless he is Tan Sri Jason Goh and he knows Danish only because he is married to Pernille from Copenhagen!
OkK, how about 'Kuda' which means 'Horse' in Malay?
Anyway I am not an investor and lost RM 20 by betting on a wrong horse! Still I got my money back by eating enough for lunch, dinner and supper and by drinking 4 bottles of Carlsberg beer. I must have eaten and drank nearly RM 100 so I ended up making some theoretical profit of RM 80!
Josh Lim of Advertlets won due to me placing his betting slip for him. He bet RM 20,000 and won RM 28,000.
Ok, so he bet RM 20 and won RM 28. But did he give me a commission? Not a sen!

Good afternoon
distinguished guests; and thank you Tan Sri Datuk Richard Cham Hak Lim, Chairman of Selangor Turf Club, for
the kind words and compliment notes.
On behalf of Carlsberg Malaysia, I would like to
thank everyone for being here to mark the second consecutive year of
the ‘Carlsberg Challenge Series’ and the Official Launch of the HEST, an exclusive dining and lounge at
STC.
Our involvement in the equestrian sports forges a
dynamic synergy with horse racing based on its shared values of stature,
traditional heritage and pedigree.
Last year, a total cash prize of RM375,000 was awarded to winners of
three legs of Carlsberg Cup Challenge series. This year, we are glad
to raise the bar by increasing the sponsorship value to RM425,000 across three races.
The coveted Carlsberg Challenge Cup and additional cash bonuses of RM70,000
is up for grabs for the winning horse with the highest points accumulated and
to the single horse that captures all three races.
Aside from the race, we are also proud to see STC
members enjoying Carlsberg beers at the latest bar and kitchen named HEST. As
shared by Tan Sri earlier, HEST, is a Danish word for ‘horse’ and is the
perfect choice of name to reflect the partnership between Carlsberg and
Selangor Turf Club.
Carlsberg and sports has a
long history and in Malaysia is already synonymous with golf, rugby and
football. Adding feather to its cap, Carlsberg ventures into horse racing which
is also a popular sports in Malaysia.
With all of your support, we
look forward to great partnership with STC and more STC members can now enjoy
the excitement of pedigree racing over an ice cold Carlsberg at HEST.
