UNLIKE MOST WOMEN PAST 40, DATO DR WENDDI-ANN CHONG IS NOR AFRAID TO REVEAL HER AGE. SHE ANNOUNCED SHE WAS 51 PROUDLY FROM THE PODIUM/DJ CONSOLE OF HER NEW RESTAURANT MARIANI'S IN MEDAN IPOH, PERSIARAN MEDAN IPOH WHICH IS A LIFESTYLE MALL FILLED WITH ARTY SHOPS, RESTAURANTS AND CLUBS.

I wonder when Kim Goo and Dato Dr Wenddi-Ann Chong will get married since they are so lovey-dovey and she described him as 'without him I wouldn't be what I am today'. What does that mean I wonder?

Mariani's is now the hottest spot for fine Italian dining as word spreads like wildfire there is now a hip and happening joint with delectable, authentic Italian fare at reasonable prices. Better value than what we paid for Ipoh's famous Chicken Taugeh!
Of course I demanded to know why Mariani's is not in KL as no one is gonna drive 5 hours to and from just to enjoy Mariani's cuisine, great as it is.
Explained owner Dato Dr Wenddi-Ann Chong, "In business we must look at the Blue Ocean strategy. KL is Red Ocean and Ipoh is still Blue Ocean! There is room for excellent but unpretentious Italian cuisine which is enjoyed by all. We also do not serve pork so Muslims can patronise Mariani's."
Both she and bf Kim Goo are not from Ipoh but love the city enough to buy a house here since they plan to be here 90% of the time. A sad loss for KL but Ipoh's big gain!
Though Dato Dr Wenddi-Ann Chong has worked hard enough for the past 30 years to retire in luxury and spend the rest of her glam life shopping, she is determined to make Mariani's a huge success and start a chain.
Mind you, there is a Marini's on 57 at Menara 3 Petronas on the 57th floor with direct, full frontal views of Petronas Twin Towers so one must not get confused.
Explained Dato Wenddi-Ann Chong, "When deciding my restaurant's name, I came across the name John Mariani the famous food writer and Esquire food critic and I thought it sounds nice. So I added an 's' to Mariani to become Mariani's. I think the name is a lucky one!"
When I phoned her today, she did not answer but later texted to say she was busy waitressing! Fancy that!
She must be serious about Mariani's and not treating it as a hobby! I cannot imagine Dato Dr Wenddi-Ann Chong as a waitress as she is probably decked in couture ballgowns by Tatiana boutique! So I shall have to sneak to Ipoh unannounced to check if this is true.
Like the say, miracles do happen.
Imagine being served and tipping a waitress who not only owns the eatery but a RM 1.8 million white Lamborghini! Now that is a most interesting and palatable starter!
