Shanghai Min is welcoming the Year of the Horse with the auspicious ‘Lo Hei’ tradition of tossing raw fish salad plattersin the air with chopsticks to bring good fortune and prosperity.

The colourful Chinese New Year celebration that dates back more than 750 years is a festive highlight at all nine Shanghai Min restaurants in Hong Kong priced HK$198, on a set menu designed for groups of six priced HK$1,988.

According to tradition, families and friends call out "Lo Hei", meaning "mix it up", as they toss the ingredients while saying well wishes out loud to bring good luck and prosperity for all in the coming year.

It is said that the higher the ingredients are tossed in the air, the more prosperity is assured.

Available throughout Chinese New Year from January 13 to February 14, the Shanghai Min Fortune Toss features a piled platter of Shanghai delicacies including smoked salmon and a harvest of multi-coloured, traditional shredded vegetables, seasonings and sauces.

Shanghai Min’s specialty version also includes a secret sweet and sour Shanghai-style sauce, creating a distinctive light aromatic taste and crisp texture that is uncommon in the Chinese New Year specialty.
