IT WAS A MOST AUSPICIOUS DAY YESTERDAY 7 FEBRUARY 2014 AS IT WAS BOTH THE CHINESE NEW YEAR LUNCHEON HOSTED BY TOP JEWELLER DATUK TRACY ONG AND ALSO THE BIRTHDAY OF THE JADE EMPEROR WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY FOR THE HOKKIENS AND I OF COURSE AM A HOKKIEN JUSTAS ALL THE EMPERORS WERE HOKKIEN.
The birthday of the Jade Emperor is to many Chinese and especially the Hokkiens is considered even grander and more important than the first day of Chinese New Year! When I was a child, I knew it as 'Pai Tee Kong' or 'pray to God of Heaven' or 'Jade Emperor'. My parents continue to pray to Ti Kong or God of Heaven or Jade Emperor to this day.
So it was a double celebration at Datuk Tracy Ong's stately mansion big and luxurious enough to invite the most important, kind-hearted and beautiful lady in Malaysia---Her Majesty the Queen of Malaysia, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tuanku Sultanah Haminah Hamidun, the Raja Permaisuri of Malaysia!
I arrived with Princess Dr Becky Leogardo at noon and Her Majesty came at 1 pm in a Maybach. She stayed till 3 pm and was as usual very smiling, gracious and shook hands with all the ladies and even me! When taking her photograph, Her Majesty remarked, "Besarnya cincin" which meant "So big your ring"!
As she departed I asked why she was leaving so early despite being at Datuk Tracy Ong's house for 2 hours! Her Majesty the Queen of Malaysia replied, "I have to go to Negeri Sembilan".
