CHAT WITH FOUNDER AND OPERATOR OF KOMUGI, DATO C.L LIAW
1.
What made you bring Komugi into
Malaysia?
1. Bringing
Komugi into the Malaysian F&B industry is a business diversification
decision. It is a strategic corporate move to create and expand new revenue
stream for the Group in addition to Focus Point Optical Division which has been
the core and stable contributor for more than 24 years.
2. To seize
the opportunity to venture into a thriving market where Locals have a strong
preference for tasty, nutritious, healthy and fashionable Japanese
Cuisine
3. To be a
long-term player in an ever-growing F&B Segment where Malaysian Urbanites (families,
workers and students) have been and are increasingly eating out.
2. Do
you think the Japanese food trend in Malaysia is temporary or here to stay?
Malaysians have developed an affinity towards Japanese
food, backed by the belief that Japanese foods are nutritious, healthy and
quality-conscious. This confidence has created a steadily increasing following
for Japanese foods and hence its place in the local F&B landscape.
3.
Do you plan to expand your menu
to suit the Malaysia palate?
Yes, Komugi Café Menu - Japanese fusion cuisine
will be adapted from time to time to suit the Malaysian palate. Our
Komugi menu will retain the authentic and traditional Japanese Cuisine
such as Udon Mee, Japanese Pizza, and Salad, while Fusion products and Dishes
will be continually added to cater to the demands of
the Malaysian public.
Currently, our Komugi Burger is the top seller -high
quality burger patty, tasty sauce with freshly baked bread using imported authentic
Japanese ingredients.
4. How
is Komugi different from other Japanese cafes in Malaysia?
We have positioned Komugi differently from the main
stream cafes based on the uniqueness and distinctiveness of our products and
dishes. The Komugi Burger, Hanjuku Cheese Cake, Nama Choco Sand Sponge
Cake, Fuwa-fuwa cream bum, Baum Layered Cake, Japanese Gourmet Coffee and
Oxygenated Fruit Juices - offer distinctive and unique
authentic Japanese taste, freshness and quality.
5.
Any big plans for Komugi?
While Komugi Malaysia systematically expands its reach
locally, with have planned to open new outlets in 2014. We will further expand
into Franchisee Business overseas.
