This December 6th 2014, China Sports Promotions (the team behind Brawl on the Wall, Brawl on the Bund, Mayhem in Macao and Taipei Fight Night) in association with sponsors The Venetian Macao and the Cotai Ring Club will host the fourth Shanghai Fight Night at the Hyatt on the Bund in Shanghai.

Headlining the night is professional MMA fighter-turned-boxer bad boy Rodrigo Benedito Caporal from Brazil making his China debut against northern China’s Liu ‘Lightning’ Yue.

The evening’s fight-card gets underway with five white-collar boxing bouts, with 10 office workers from Shanghai who have been in training at Golden Gloves Gym in Shanghai for three months facing off in front of a sell-out crowd of friends and fight fans.

Then as the night and gala dinner draws on, the professional fights get underway with France’s Ennaceri Mourad facing off against China’s Su ‘AK-47’ Cheng, and an all Chinese fight between Beijing’ s Zhao Chong Yang the ‘Daring Fighter’ and 18-year-old Liu Ming Fei, the ‘War Chariot’.

Outside of the ring, the evening will be dripping in glitz and glamour from the very start with a full-on red carpet entrance, television crews and photographers snapping away.

A four-course dinner will be served to a crowd of glammed-up guests cheering on the fighters between toasts of champagne in what has become one of the highlights of Shanghai’s social calendar.

The mix of professional fights with white-collar bouts has become central to the success of the event in the last two years. It offers both the chance for regular people in Shanghai to challenge themselves to the discipline of training for a fight, and it is also a platform, in front of 600 fans, for young professional boxers from around the world.

That opportunity for professional boxers to showcase their skills means they can use the event as a stepping stone to get help gaining better access to training, sponsorship and career development.

It is this professional boxing side of Shanghai Fight Night, and The Venetian Macao’s continuous support of professional boxing in China, that has really started to change the landscape of boxing’s exposure across the country and Asia. With the success of Shanghai Fight Night, China Sports Promotions will be expanding the event even further across Asia in 2015 as the appetite for boxing grows further.

“Year after year the white-collar boxing event Brawl on the Bund is sold out, and after nine successful Brawl events and now three successful Shanghai Fight Nights, I see people’s attitudes are changing positively towards the sport,” says China Sports Promotions CEO Shane Benis.

“There is more interest, there is a buzz about boxing. A lot of this has to do with The Venetian Macao – they have brought 'big boxing' to China by hosting world class events like the Clash in Cotai, and the upcoming Clash in Cotai II, featuring Pacquiao vs Algieri on November 23 at the Cotai Arena. People are finally interested in boxing here. And it is here to stay!”
