For many, the Christmas season brings back sweet memories of gifts in stockings, stuffed turkeys and the setting up of Christmas trees in the hall. Yet, in this season of giving, we must be reminded of children who, through unfortunate circumstances beyond their control, have found themselves at the fringes of society, abandoned and neglected by society.

This was the compelling reason behind the decision by renowned Malaysian jewellery house Amee Philips Exclusive Jewellery to organize the “Champagne With Santa” hi-tea at Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur on 14 December to help spread the yuletide cheer to children of Shepherd’s Centre Foundation, a foster home for abandoned children,.

Forming part of Amee Philips’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, “Champagne With Santa” aims to give back to society by helping raise funds for the Shepherd’s Home Foundation. The event is co-sponsored by Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur.

Apart from treating 31 children aged 5 to 13 to hi-tea at the hotel, the CSR event also featured a Jewellery Auction and Raffle Draw featuring two valuable pieces of jewellery worth RM13,000 contributed by Amee Philips Exclusive Jewellery, with proceeds from the auction going to Shepherd’s Centre Foundation.

According to Andrew Philips, Managing Director of Amee Philips Exclusive Jewellery, “As a responsible corporate citizen Amee Philps Exclusive Jewellery is always seeking ways to make a significant contribution to the welfare and progress of the communities we operate in. This is the reason why Amee Philips, with the support of Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur, is hosting this Christmas hi-tea at Mandarin Grill for the children from Shepherd’s Centre Foundation.”

Shepherd’s Centre Foundation is a foster home located in Rawang, Selangor for children who are orphaned, abandoned, abused, and neglected children from broken families.

It was established in 1993 by Pastor Jacop and his wife Bridget David and was officially registered as a foundation in 2000. The home now shelters 84 children, and has helped over 450 children to graduate from institutions of higher learning.

The event kicked off at 2:00pm at the posh Mandarin Grill, among KL’s best fine dining restaurants, with the arrival of invited guests, close friends of Amee Philips, and children from Shepherd’s Centre Foundation.

After a welcome speech by Andrew Philips, Managing Director of Amee Philips Exclusive Jewellery, and a few words from Bridget David, Home Director of Shepherd’s Centre Foundation, guests were treated to a heart-warming Christmas Performance given by children of the home.

Hi-tea was then served, while jewellery connoisseurs among the invitees were treated to the sight of models parading on stage with the latest creations from Amee Philips Exclusive Jewellery in a dazzling Fashion Show.

It was after the Fashion Show that the highlights of the afternoon began: first, a charity auction of the Amee Philips Yin and Yang Pearl Pendant Set, when guests had the opportunity to bid for the dazzling pendant made of Black Tahitian and white cultured pearl framed by a sparkling diamond eye add-on in 18k white gold, completed with Amee Philips’ patented diamond studded V-clip and white gold chain, an elegant creation valued at RM11,000.

This was followed by the Raffle Draw offering another stunning creation, a Fancy Colour Sapphire & Diamonds set in 18k white gold ring, valued at RM3,000, to be presented to the lucky winner.

This was followed by a photo shoot of children from the home with Santa, presentation of gifts to the children, and finally, presentation of a mock cheque representing the total amount collected from the auction, raffle draw and photo shoot to be donated to the foundation.

The afternoon concluded with “Champagne With Santa”, as the joyous mood of the occasion continued with champagne being served to guests.

Amee Philips Exclusive Jewellery was founded in 1999 when founder Amee Philips, a Penang-born gemstone wholesaler and jewellery designer, opened her first jewellery retail outlet at Jalan Kelawei, Penang.
