FROM AJAY AND KAYSHA UBRANI
"As I sat in my coveted seat in the sidelines and watched a kids fashion show with my discerning eye,  in this really exotic ambience amidst a deserted park watching my first kids fashion show, I was determined to bring kids fashion to Kuala Lumpur.

Now as the owner of two children's boutiques, fashion for kids means serious business. The cut of a jacket, the hue of a shoe, the just-so accessories - nothing escapes my eye. However despite being a fashionista, practicality is equally important when it comes to dressing our tiny loved ones.

Don't we all love our kids ? And who doesn't want to see their "trophies" well-groomed and well-dressed. The luxury children's wear market is currently booming. People are willing to splash cash on children's fashion as they get more affluent and really why not? If you can afford it, comfort and style should precede.

And having dabbled in this industry for the last seven years, really its not all about the branding. Its the quality. For a little bit more, you get a way better quality than you can ever believe. Organic cotton, luxurious linens, silken silks and really just good workmanship than lasts washes and washes.
My daughter's Little Marc Jacobs shorts have lasted 4 years ( yes her bum hasn't probably grown much) and still look as good as new - and they are her most comfortable pair of shorts that I am pretty tired of seeing them.

Fashion for kids has definitely evolved in KL over the past few years and we are somewhat close to our fashionable counterparts in Singapore and Hong Kong. And really for parents who claim they don't believe in spoiling their kids with expensive designer wear are hypocritically spoiling them with Star Wars and Lego toys.

Trust me when I tell you, sometimes that little bit more goes a long way - in terms of comfort and quality and you will end up saving more money than buying generic brands which last no more than 10 washes.

I still vaguely remember the clothes I used to wear as a kid, usually hand me downs from older cousins and nothing ever really matched. It took me a long long time to find out my own fashion identity. By exposing your tiny ones to different textures, styles, colours and fashion ideas, can help bring out their own individuality.

Speaking from experience, I have two growing kids - and they have worn from the Young Versaces to the John Gallianos, its really not about the brand. My daughter Rivaa, 12 ( going 17) hates anything pink and too fleshy and is most comfy in her shorts and tee shirts. And honestly, be it a French Connection ( from the lower price range) or a high couture silken Young Versace dress - she's averse to it all.
She wears it because its comfortable and of course not PINK! My son. Aarav, 10, would trade all his designer tee shirts for a Barca jersey anytime. Sigh.

Like they, every day is a fashion show and the world is your runway. I honestly believe, the joy of dressing is an art. Clothes aren't going to change the world, the people who wear them will. But honestly, the difference between style and fashion is QUALITY.
We should help our kids develop their sense of style. Style is very personal, it has nothing to do with fashion. Fashion is over quickly. STYLE IS FOREVER.

Dressing is a way of life - Yves Saint Laurent.
Teach your kids to live.
