ANTIQUORUM THE WATCH AUCTIONEERS REPORT REMARKABLE RESULTS OF FEBRUARY SALES IN HONG KONG

Remarkable Results Achieved at Antiquorum’s February Auction in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, February 9, 2015 – Antiquorum’s auction of “Important Modern and Vintage Timepieces” held at the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong on Saturday, February 7th concluded with an outstanding result totaling HKD$30,770,250. The impressive collection of 296 timepieces sold 119% by value based on the low estimate. In addition to the strong in-room presence, the auction enjoyed competitive telephone and Internet bidding. International participation came from the United States, Europe, Singapore, Taiwan, Macao, as well as Australia.

The top lot of the sale was the Patek Philippe Ref 5016, an exceptional platinum wristwatch with unique double dial featuring black and silver Roman numerals (Lot 296), which achieved an outstanding HKD $4,110,000 including buyer’s premium.

Highlighting the sale was the extraordinary Patek Philippe Ref 865/084 watch with unique enamel miniature portrait “Grandfather with sleeping granddaughter” by Suzanne Rohr in yellow gold (Lot 221) which attracted considerable attention prior to the auction. After minutes of intense bidding, the extremely rare and collectible pocket watch was sold to an Asian phone bidder for HKD$ 2,550,000 including buyer’s premium.

Another outstanding timepiece, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Unique Piece Venus minute repeater wristwatch in Pink Gold (Lot 223) drew much attention from bidders and achieved an outstanding price of HKD$1,530,000 including buyer’s premium. The Girard-Perregaux Ref. 99650, enamel minute repeater wristwatch (Lot 239) also elicited great interest, selling for HKD 725,000 including buyer’s premium.

A number of Patek Philippe wristwatches inspired fierce competition. The Patek Philippe Ref. 5102 “Celestial” in white gold (Lot 290) sold for HKD$1,530,000 including buyer’s premium. Furthermore, the Patek Philippe Ref. 3428 with enamel dial in white gold (Lot 293) achieved a noteworthy HKD$978, 000 including buyer’s premium. In addition, the Patek Philippe Ref 3971E perpetual calendar chronograph in yellow gold (Lot 291) obtained HKD$ 650,000 including buyer’s premium.

Rare enamel pocket watches made for the Chinese market in exceptional condition continue to galvanize collectors worldwide. The Bovet Fleurier Bouquet enamel pocket watch (Lot 84) sold for HKD$ 650,000 including buyer’s premium. The Hope Brother Co. yellow gold pocket watch with minute repeater (Lot 83) achieved an outstanding price of HKD$325,000 including buyer’s premium, over 6 times its pre-sale estimate. The J. Ullman & Co Chinese market carillon Grande Sonnerie enamel pocket watch with minute repeater (Lot 85) also did very well and sold for HKD 475,000 including buyer’s premium.

Antiquorum looks forward to its next auction to be held on March 15 in Geneva will feature outstanding examples from coveted brands such as Patek Philippe, Rolex and Breguet.

Patek Philippe Ref. 5016 unique double dial black and silver roman numerals in Platinum. Sold on June 29th, 2000.This is an extremely fine, unique and important minute-repeating, platinum wristwatch with one-minute tourbillon regulator, retrograde perpetual calendar, moon phases, and a platinum Patek Philippe buckle. Accompanied by a Patek Philippe fitted box, Certificate of Origin, COSC, extra silver dial, extra platinum caseback, setting pin, and a leather folder with booklets.

Estimate: HKD 3,500,000 – 5,000,000

Patek Philippe Ref 865/084 pocket watches with unique enamel miniature portrait “Grandfather with sleeping granddaughter” by Suzanne Rohr in yellow gold. Sold on 11th November 1993, this is an extremely fine and unique, 18K yellow gold, keyless dress watch with exceptional polychrome painted on enamel miniature Grandfather with sleeping granddaughter. Accompanied by the original Patek Philippe fitted box and Certificate of Origin, Japanese registered guarantee card and booklets.

Jaeger-LeCoultre, “Piece Unique Master Minute Repeater Venus” in pink gold, Ref. 151.2.67.S. The unique and exceptional, oversized, minute-repeating, 18K pink gold wristwatch with15-day power reserve indication, Grand Feu enamel miniature  “Venus” and an  18K pink gold Jaeger- LeCoultre double deployant clasp. Accompanied by a Certificate of Origin and instruction booklet.

Sold including buyer’s premium: HKD 1,530,000

Patek Philippe Ref 5102 “Celestial” wristwatch in white gold, made in May 2003. This is an extremely fine and unusual astronomic wristwatch with mean time indication, nocturnal sky of the Northern Hemisphere, moon phases and moon orbit and time of the meridian passage of Sirius and moon. It is accompanied by the Certificate of Origin, leather instruction folder, booklets and an original winding box.

Patek Philippe Ref 3428. This is a very fine and rare 18K white gold wristwatch with enamel dial and an 18K white gold Patek Philippe buckle. It is only the 5th white gold reference 3428 to appear on the market. Never offered at auction before, with a perfect enamel dial and its original crown and cased in white gold, is it undoubtedly one of the nicest waterproofs automatic Patek ever produced. Accompanied by the extract from the archives and serviced paper (serviced in 2012 in Swiss)

Chanel, no.14G159 “Night and Day” diamond and Sapphire. This is a very fine, rare and elegant quartz lady’s wristwatch with yellow and blue sapphire and diamond with integrate bracelet .Accompanied by a serviced paper (04/10/2014) and booklet.

Girard Perrgaux Ref 99650 Minute Repeater. This is a very fine and very rare, manual-winding, 18K pink gold wristwatch with minute repeater, enamel dial and 18K pink gold Girard- Perregaux deployant clasp. Accompanied by an original fitted box, warranty card, certificate, key, and booklets and hang tag.

Bovet Fleurier Bouquet Yellow Gold and Enamel No.5325. The exceptional yellow gold and painted on enamel center-seconds pocket watch is fine and rare, with mirror-polished movement and Jacot duplex escapement. Made for the Chinese market, circa 1870

Patek Philippe Ref 3971E perpetual calendar chronograph. This 18K yellow gold wristwatch with round button chronograph is very fine and very rare, with registers, perpetual calendar, moon phases and an 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe buckle. Accompanied by the original fitted box, the Extract of the Archives, push pin, original crocodile strap, 18K yellow gold buckle and instruction booklet. Sold on May 11th, 1990.

Urwerk Ref UR202 Altin Twin Turbine Titanium. This is a very fine, rare and futuristic, rectangular sculpted, titanium Chronometer wristwatch with digital time indicated by a patented revolving satellite complication with telescopic minute and hour orbiting satellites, moon phases and day & night indication and a PVD titanium Urwerk buckle. Made in a limited edition circa 2009.
