The effort, expense and energy invested in designing and making these costumes are astounding and even if rented, kudos are due to them.
It must have taken well over an hour to dress up properly and apply make-up, do hair and fix accessories!
I noticed many Malaysian finalists opted to wear Cik Siti Wan Kembang costume whereas many contestants from China opted for Wu Zetian garments. Both Cik Siti Wang Kembang and Wu Zetian were rulers in their own right and reigned their country as de facto kings and not as regent or consort of the king!
Cik Siti Wang Kembang was the legendary Queen of Kelantan who reigned in the 16th and 17th century while Wu Zetian ruled as emperor from 690 to 705 during the so-called Zhou dynasty which briefly interrupted the Tang dynasty. Wu Zetian was the only female emperor to rule China in its 5,000 years of history and similarly, Cik Siti Wan Kembang was the first and only female 'sultan' to rule a state in the history of Malaysia!
So the costumes of these icons were most suitable and relevant as Mrs Asia Supreme aspires to encourage and elevate married women to attain new heights of accomplishments and achievements! Married women can continue to prosper and gain new power and wealth in their own right after marriage and after being a wife and mother!
