FASHION FESTIVAL 2016 CLOSES WITH ASIAN DESIGNER SHOWCASE AND AWARDS GALA
The Mercedes-Benz STYLO AsiaFashionFestival 2016 (MBSTYLOAFF 2016) culminated
with a colourful showcase by some of Asia’s leading fashion designers themed
“Sin-derella” and friends followed by an awards presentation to honour the best
in the fashion industry.
The awards night, billed
as the climax of the 3-day fashion festival, was a true red-carpet event with
the glitzy and glamorous dressed to the nines to celebrate a glittering night
of fashion excellence at Zouk Kuala Lumpur @ TREC. The crème de le crème of
Malaysian high society were invited including dignitaries, socialites,
celebrities, and many more, making the event a truly impressive affair.
As the invited guests
arrived at Zouk, they were treated to a free flow of cocktails as fellow guests
took the opportunity to pose for photographs at the STYLO photowall. As the doors to Zouk Mainroom, the
venue of the show opened, guests walked in to an array of videos by STYLO’s partners - Mercedes-Benz, Zouk, and Malaysia
Hairdressing Association played on the giant screens.
The night’s formal
programme kicked off with an opening introduction by the event’s emcee,
followed by the opening speech by Mark Raine, Vice President of Sales &
Marketing Mercedes-Benz, Malaysia.
In his speech, Mr. Raine
remarked, “Mercedes-Benz is proud to stand hand-in-hand with STYLO throughout this year’s festival as we continue
to support the Malaysian and Asian fashion industry and the
creative people who make it all happen.
"This year, the Mercedes Benz STYLO
AsiaFashionFestival, is very timely set to coincide
with the unveiling and showcasing of the new generation of Mercedes-Benz
A-class vehicles, which has been on display here at Zouk over the past few
nights of STYLO”.

Nancy Yeoh, President and CEO of STYLO
International said, “Tonight, right here at the fabulous Zouk Kuala Lumpur, we
are very proud to put together a showcase of the creative brilliance of fashion
designers throughout Asia as well as the industrious creativity and
capabilities of Malaysian footwear designers.
"We are also very excited to be
presenting tonight, the Mercedes-Benz STYLO
fashion awards in various categories to a very select group of recipients for
their performance and contribution to the Asian fashion industry”.
“Through
STYLO’s partnership with Mercedes-Benz, we hope to
encourage and promote more undiscovered Asian fashion talent to the global
fashion arena.
"I would like to thank Mercedes-Benz for their continued belief
and support of STYLO, and am proud to share that STYLO’s
partnership with Mercedes-Benz this year will not end here, but we will
continue throughout this year, culminating our joint efforts in November this
year with the Malaysia Fashion Week”, added Yeoh.

was showtime, as the Asian designer showcase got underway with fashion shows

This was followed by a
creative shoe showcase by the Malaysian Footwear Manufacturers Association
(MFMA) as each piece of shoe was displayed by the models on a piece of pillow,
culminating with the last model who came out wearing a resplendent shoe table
with 17 pieces of shoes on it.
Next up was local shoe designer Nelissa Hilman’s
turn to wow the crowd with her fabulous shoe designs.
Then came the time for the
presentations of the Mercedes-Benz STYLO
AsiaFashionFestival Awards:

Model of the Year 2016: Male – winner: Shah Efron. Award was presented
by Cher Ng, Executive Director, Zouk KL

Model of the Year 2016: Female – winner: Gao Min Sun. Award
was presented by Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Group Managing Director, The Star
Publications

Best Showcase Designer of the Year 2016: winner: Keith Kee.
Award was presented by Mr. Mark Raine, Vice President, Sales & Marketing,
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia
Next up was a showcase by the
reigning winner of the 2015 Mercedes Benz STYLO
Designer of the Year, Fairus Ramdan with an endearing tribute the late pop-rock
icon, David Bowie. His interesting
showcase came complete with a flash mob, followed by a fashion showcase with
models in the David Bowie look as they sashayed away to his most popular hit
song “Let’s Dance”.
The last award of the
evening was the MBSTYLOAFF Global Fashion
Influencer Asia 2016 Award which was presented to a fashion icon who, through
his or her involvement in fashion has helped put Malaysia on the international
fashion map.
The winner, Edric Ong was
presented with his award by Datuk Prof (Dr) Jimmy Choo OBE (Honorary Advisor of
STYLO AFF) together with Dr. Claus Weidner, President and CEO, Mercedes-Benz
Malaysia.
The
night’s program ended with a grand finale photo opportunity with hair stylists,
models, designers, muses and festival partners on stage followed by an after
show party as the Zouk Mainroom was transform into the STYLO party central for the night.

About STYLO
Launched with
Mercedes Benz in 2007 by SPB Tuanku Nur Zahirah, the Raja Permaisuri Agung and
Dato' Jimmy Choo, STYLO was conceived as a fashion and lifestyle
fringe event in celebration of the 10th year of F1 racing in Sepang.
The first STYLO event, held in March 2008 was called the STYLO KL Fashion Festival. 5 months later, it
entered Singapore with Mercedes Benz as its principal sponsor for the launch of
the first ever F1 night race in Singapore and was called STYLO
Singapore Fashion Festival.
Two years later
it was renamed as the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Grand Prix.
Subsequently, STYLO spread its wings beyond Malaysia’s borders with events organised in
fashion partnership with Mercedes Benz in Delhi, Mumbai, Prague and Mexico City
as it celebrated the combination of speed and fashion.
Next came Jakarta
and London in 2011.
In conjunction
with Mercedes-Benz’ 150th anniversary celebrations in 2012, Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week (AFW) was born and held
its first AFW concurrently as the STYLO Fashion Grand Prix.
Malaysian
External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and STYLO became partners in 2013 with the Malaysia
Fashion Week. It is the country's first B2B fashion initiative; in 2015
Malaysia Fashion Week brought RM126 millions of soft exports to the country.
The MFW runs concurrently with the AFW, bringing participants from over 17
countries to Malaysia every November.
This year, the
Malaysia Formula One will no longer be held in March but in October. STYLO will be showcased as a fashion show at the
evening of the Mercedes Benz Petronas F1 party.
However, in
maintaining the tradition of having a fashion event every March since 2008, the
Mercedes Benz STYLO AsiaFashionFestival has been created in March featuring Autumn
Winter and classic collections from top Asian designers for a B2C showcase.
These include accessories designers such as hair, make up, bags and shoes.

Fashion Week 2016 #MFW2016
Malaysia Fashion Week
(MFW) is an international fashion trade and consumer event that gathers over
100 Malaysian and international fashion designers and over thousands of
industry players that will be held from 2nd – 5th November 2015 at the
MATRADE Exhibition and Convention Center, Kuala Lumpur.
The event will feature
a series of “ground breaking” trade fashion shows, a stylish gala award event
and a lifestyle trade event for fashion brands, accessories, textiles,
cosmetics and personal care, known as the International Trade Malaysia
(INTRADE).
The fashion shows for
Spring/Summer 2017 will feature Malaysian designers under the Malaysia Fashion
Showcase (MFS) banner, together with Asian designers under the Mercedes-Benz
STYLO
Asia Fashion Week (MBSTYLOAFW) banner.
It is the only trade fashion event
headlined ‘ASIA for ASIA’ with International Awards from MBSTYLOAFW and Datuk Professor
Jimmy Choo.
