ALCAZAR CABARET OPENED IN PATTAYA (2.5 HOURS DRIVE FROM BANGKOK) ON 8 NOVEMBER 1982 AND WAS AN OVERNIGHT SUCCESS THOUGH IT HAD ONLY 100 DANCERS AND STAFF. THE ORIGINAL VENUE COULD ACCOMMODATE ONLY 350 AND IT WAS FULL HOUSE ALMOST EVERY NIGHT.
A decision was made to expand the seating capacity to 1,200 and build a state of the art, freestanding theatre with vast parking space for coaches.
The new Alcazar theatre opened on 9 February 1990, just 8 years after its sensational debut that took Pattaya by storm and provided a livelihood for the 'katoi' or 'ladyboys' of Thailand.
The girls are as sexy as ever as Alcazar could take their pick when it comes to auditions and the leading divas are considered minor celebrities. The shows have evolved over the years and new technology means dancers can 'fly' across the stage using hidden wires which are generally not permitted in politically correct Europe due to the element of risk.
The dances are well choreographed but of course the real stars are the sequins, beads and feathers that festoon every inch of the dancers' hot bods! Plus their acclaimed cleavages which are generally big enough to impress but not humungous to frighten half the men.
There are 5 shows daily---5 pm, 6.30 pm, 8 pm and 9.30 pm.
The 70-minute show is divided into 17 segments.
