MERCEDES-BENZ STYLO ASIAFASHIONFESTIVAL PRESENTS
SCARLET MASQUERADE BALL “BEAUTY & THE BEAST” AND
“50 SHADES OF RED” AFTER PARTY
FEATURING FASHION SHOWS, CREATIVITY AND INDUSTRY AWARDS

The Mercedes-Benz STYLO AsiaFashionFestival 2017 culminated tonight at Bangsar South’s KL Gateway Mall with the Scarlet Masquerade Ball – “Beauty & the Beast” and an awards night.

The awards gala, often regarded as the high point of the fashion festival saw the attendance of the crème de le crème of Malaysian high society including dignitaries, celebrities and socialites making it a truly impressive red carpet affair.

In keeping with theme of the night, guests arrived dressed to the nines in fashionable gowns and dapper suits as they sipped cocktails and perused the Mercedes-Benz and sponsors gallery at the mall’s Central Piazza. Following a brief pre-event cocktail, the much-awaited gala event commenced at the Fashion Cube.

Dato’ Nancy Yeoh-Reissiger, President & CEO of STYLO International and Chairman of MBSTYLOAFF said, “Tonight as we bring 5 nights of our 10th anniversary fashion festivities to a close, we celebrate with awards, the best in fashion and creative excellence in the time-honoured tradition of MBSTYLOAFF

"In the past 10 years, MBSTYLOAFF has unearthed and recognised some exceptional talents and we hope to continue pushing the boundaries of fashion in support of industry growth in years to come.”

President of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, Dr. Claus Weidner said, “Mercedes-Benz is proud to be a long-standing partner of STYLO International’s AsiaFashionFestival. There are many synergies and similarities between the world of fashion and the world of automobiles.

Through the years, Mercedes-Benz has embraced the concept of combining exceptional driving performances and comfort with sophisticated design and style. In a way, you can say that each Mercedes-Benz car has become the epitome of both Beauty & The Beast, the theme of tonight’s gala.”

The night’s fashion entertainment commenced with JO DISAYA showing a collection dominated by earthy tones and inspired by the 1970s vintage era. Rebellion and radicalism was the central theme, evident in the accessory detailing and fabrication. Bill Keith came on shortly after, with “50 shades of RED”, a collection based on a celebration of power and glamour!

Following that, the Mercedes-Benz STYLO AsiaFashionFestival gala honoured the most distinctive individuals in their respective fields of expertise through various fashion award categories.
The first award, MBSTYLOAFF Most Creative Influencer of the Year 2017 was presented by Jeremy Khaw, Commercial Manager for Malaysia, Indonesia & Thailand, Beam Suntory to Dato' Kee Hua Chee, the greatestest blogger and freelance writer this side of the observable universe. Some suggest quietly there MAY be a greater writer than Dato Kee Hua Chee in the dark side of the universe which cannot be seen but who cares since we cannot discern the identity of the writer. So Dato Kee Hua Chee retains his title as Greatest Writer and Blogger This Side of Observable Universe!

Many are thankful to live in same era and kalpa as Dato Kee Hua Chee and well they should.

After that came not so important titles lah which I know you could not bother to know but Dato Nancy Yeoh insisted I must not be selfish considering my mentor and big boss Dato Sri Wong Chun Wai of The Star Media Group also won the Industry Award! To be banned from contributing to The Star, Malaysia's best and most authoritative newspaper, is a fate worse than death.

The second award of the evening was the MBSTYLOAFF Best Designer Showcase 2017 award by presented by Clement de Ligault, Key Account Manager of Airbus Helicopters Malaysia to the winner Bremen Wong and Bill Keith.

The gala dinner then saw a brief interlude with a fashion presentation showcasing “Green Indigo”, a collection by multi-award designer, Edric Ong featuring the natural indigo leaves from Sarawak hand-stamped on ‘shibori’ silks.

The awards presentation continued with the MBSTYLOAFF Fashion Icon 2017 award presented by Julia Teo, Associate Marketing Director of Neutrogena®, Johnson & Johnson to Datuk Kelvin Tan.

Next was the presentation of the MBSTYLOAFF Most Promising Designer of the Year 2017 by Yang Kian Joo, Project Director, Suez Captital Sdn Bhd to Jo Disaya and Illiza Ho.

Mark Raine, Vice President, Sales & Marketing Mercedes-Benz Malaysia then presented the MBSTYLOAFF Industry Award 2017 to Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Group Managing Director & CEO of The Star Media Group.

The awards ceremony then took a break with a performance by Nicole Kylie from local talent group Keep It Local.

A showcase of specially selected designs by Zang Toi followed before the awards presentation continued with the MBSTYLOAFF Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 presented by Dato’ Nancy Yeoh-Reisigger, President & CEO of STYLO International & Mercedes-Benz STYLO AFW to Victor Goh.

Goh began his career in fashion designing in the late 1970s and represented Singapore in a pret-a-porter show in Paris. He was commissioned to design costumes for Miss Singapore / Universe and brought home many awards including Best Designer, Best Costume and Best Cocktail Wear in the 1980s.

In the late 80s and early 90s, Goh branched out to retail merchandising and later art direction for Film & TV and various print and TV commercials before moving back to fashion styling in 1999 to the present time.

Goh has been interviewed by CNN on Asia Pacific fashion and the Kebaya elements in his designs. His more recent projects and campaigns include Debut Shanghai, Schwarzkopf, Vidal Sassoon Shanghai, Nala Design Paris, Kagesha Tokyo, Saco London, Evisu Hong Kong, Annasul Y and Lusan Mandongus Hong Kong.

The final award, MBSTYLOAFF Designer of the Year 2017 was presented by Dr. Claus Weidner, President of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia to Ashley Kapas and Tangoo.

The night drew to a close with a group photo with models, designers and festival sponsors on stage and a “50 shades of RED” after party hosted by DJ My Digital Enemy of the U.K.

About STYLO
Launched with Mercedes Benz in 2007 by SPB Tuanku Nur Zahirah, the Raja Permaisuri Agung and Dato' Jimmy Choo, STYLO was conceived as a fashion and lifestyle fringe event in celebration of the 10th year of F1 racing in Sepang.

The first STYLO event, held in March 2008 was called the STYLO KL Fashion Festival. 5 months later, it entered Singapore with Mercedes Benz as its principal sponsor for the launch of the first ever F1 night race in Singapore and was called STYLO  Singapore Fashion Festival.

Two years later it was renamed as the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Grand Prix.  Subsequently, STYLO spread its wings beyond Malaysia’s borders with events organised in fashion partnership with Mercedes Benz in Delhi, Mumbai, Prague and Mexico City as it celebrated the combination of speed and fashion.

Next came Jakarta and London in 2011.

In conjunction with Mercedes-Benz’ 150th anniversary celebrations in 2012, Mercedes-Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week (AFW) was born and held its first AFW concurrently as the STYLO Fashion Grand Prix.

Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and STYLO became partners in 2013 with the Malaysia Fashion Week. It is the country's first B2B fashion initiative; in 2015 Malaysia Fashion Week brought RM126 millions of soft exports to the country. The MFW runs concurrently with the AFW, bringing participants from over 17 countries to Malaysia every November.

This year, the Malaysia Formula One will no longer be held in March but in October. STYLO will be showcased as a fashion show at the evening of the Mercedes Benz Petronas F1 party.

However, in maintaining the tradition of having a fashion event every March since 2008, the Mercedes Benz STYLO AsiaFashionFestival has been created in March featuring Autumn Winter and classic collections from top Asian designers for a B2C showcase. These include accessories designers such as hair, make up, bags and shoes.
