SULTANAH KALSOM WAS PLEASED WHEN I INFORMED HER ROYAL HIGHNESS I WAS CERTAIN SHE WOULD BE IN BLUE. COME TO THINK OF IT, THE BLUE ATTIRE OF THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES WERE CERTAINLY MORE BLUE THAN THE OUTFITS OF DATO SRI ANDREW AND DATIN SRI CHRIS ABISHEGAM WHICH WAS MORE MIDNIGHT BLUE!

The Victoria Institution Old Boys’ Association Foundation (The VIOBA Foundation) celebrated its 50th Golden Anniversary Charity Gala Dinner more than 500 guests which took place at the Grand Ballroom, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Saturday, 13 May 2017, 7.30 pm.

The dinner also celebrated the launch of the VIOBA Foundation Master Plan Transformation Program. The Master Plan seeks to uplift the school’s educational standards to world-class status, taking Victoria Institution into the arena of 21st century education and making it a role model of excellence for every school in Malaysia. 

The guest of honour, Her Royal Highness Sultanah Kalsom of Pahang, graciously launched the programme accompanied by her son the Tengku Temenggong Pahang, Tengku Fahd Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Chairman of the Board, Dato Sri’ Andrew Abishegam spoke about the need to instill the values of honesty, respect, integrity & truth which are summed up in what describes a Victorian ; a gentleman ,a sportsman and a scholar. Victorians from the youngest to the oldest participated in the launch which was signified by completing a jigsaw of the school badge & the foundation logo.

The VIOBA Foundation Funds are for all Malaysians especially Victorians who have walked through the corridors of this grand old dame. It provides financial support for the advancement of education including the improvement of youth recreational facilities and the provision of scholarships, bursaries and education loan funds. 

Over the years, the Foundation had disbursed more than RM1,000,000 to many worthy causes.

Through the years, VI has educated and produced thousands of students from all walks of life. These include luminaries such as the Sultan of Brunei, Tan Sri Shamsuddin Kadir, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, Tan Sri Dr. Ramon Navaratnam, Tan Sri Zulhasnan Rafique, Tan Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen, Mr. Ananda Krishnan and many others. 

Multi award winning Victoria Institution’s Cadet Corp Band (the first school band to be established in Malaysia) were present to entertain whilst Dato’ Zainal Abidin was the special guest followed by entertainment from the Aseana Percussion Unit. Former TV3 host, Dato Mahadzir Lokman , a Victorian & Chacko Vadaketh ,former barrister were the Emcee’s.

Other special events included a significant partnership between SEGI University and the Victoria Institution Foundation where (2) two full scholarships worth a total of RM140,000 will be awarded to top students of the school. 

Dato Sri Andrew Abishegam presented a cheque of RM35,000 to the Headmaster as part of the foundation's commitment to the school. Donors, who had contributed more than RM500,000 to the Foundation had been honoured. 

Ever kind-hearted and generous, Sultanah Pahang, Sultanah Hajah Kalsom contributed a new scholarship fund under the name of Tengku Temenggong Pahang.

Malaysian’s culinaire extraordinaire, Dato’ Chef Wan presented a special gourmet dish named Chicken a la Victoria, fiery red and very tasty. Highlights of the evening included an auction of three (3) match play footballs, autographed by Malaysia’s legendary icons Dato’ Soh Chin Aun, Dato’ Shukor Salleh and Dato’ Santokh Singh. The trio were also present as special guests. 

Another item for auction was a specially commissioned painting of the Victoria Institution by Mr. Anurendra Jegadeva, a homegrown and award winning Malaysian artist and a Victorian.

The night ended with a resounding success when it was announced that RM800,000 had been donated towards the overall mission to garner RM2 million.
