Welcome speech by H.E.
Damrong Kraikruan,
Ambassador of
Thailand to Malaysia
at the Breaking
of Fast Organized by TAT KL
Saloma
Restaurant, MATIC KL, 6 June 2017
Mr.
Ahman Mad-adam,
Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand for Malaysia and Brunei,
Malaysian
travel agents,
Members
of the Press,
Ladies
and Gentlemen,
Selamat
Petang,
Ramadan
kareem to you all,
First
of all, many thanks to you all for joining us today. It gives me great
pleasure to be here this evening with our good friends at the breaking of
fast dinner organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand in this sacred
month.
Ramadan
is indeed a time when Muslims reaffirm themselves to their faith, following
days of discipline with nights of gratitude for the gifts that God has
bestowed. It’s also a time when people make special efforts to come together,
with Iftar dinner like this being organized in mosques and restaurants all
over the world.
Most importantly, it’s a time of spiritual renewal and a
reminder of one’s duties to fellow human beings, to serve one another and
assist the less fortunate. I have always been impressed by how Muslims, while
observing their fast, strive to help others whether by donating their
hard-earned income or by organizing soup kitchens to feed the homeless in the
streets, regardless of their faiths.
All these acts are what Islam is all
about, that is, making this world a peaceful and better place. So, I have
always been truly honoured to be invited to be part of this important Islamic
event.
Ladies
and Gentlemen,
Just
like Malaysia, Thailand is a largely multi-cultural society, and Islam has
been part of this multi-cultural society since arguable the 13th
Century. Despite the general belief that Muslims tend to concentrate in the
southern border provinces, Thai Muslims in fact are dispersed all over the
Kingdom. You can find hundreds of thousands of Muslims in Bangkok, many large
Muslim communities our World Heritage City of Ayutthaya, resort towns of
Phuket and Krabi, or even further north in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
With an
exception of a few provinces, there are also sizable Muslim communities all
over the northeastern region of Thailand. These Muslim communities live
together, work together, and enjoying their lives together peacefully with
the Buddhists, the Christians, the Hindus, and the Sikhs in Thailand.
Although
these people differ from the majority of Thais in their faiths, they were not
seen as different whether according to the Government, the fellow Thais, or
even according to themselves. We have always been proud of the fact that even
though the Thais are not singing in a unison, we are signing in harmony.
As
neighbours, I would like to give my reassurances that Thailand is always
welcoming the Malaysians of all cultures and faiths who wish to experience
for themselves this harmony in diversity. You will easily find that in many
Buddhist-majority towns, there are mosques and halal food that will allow you
to perform your obligations simply normally, just like in Malaysia.
Should
you wish to visit during this Holy Month, please be assured that no fewer
than 5 million Thais will be breaking fast together with you. And should you
wish to visit during or after Raya, these 5 million Thais will be celebrating
with you.
And whether you choose to be fasting or celebrating, all the Thais
will be enjoying the shopping galore with you in our campaign “Thailand Shopping
and Dining Paradise 2017” which runs until the end of next month.
So,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The
day is long, so I will end my remarks here before I lose your all attention.
May I please take this opportunity to wish you all blessed with good health that
will allow you to perform your duty fully during this Holy Month.
Selamat
Berbuka Puasa to you all.
Thank
you.

SPEECH BY TAT DIRECTOR AHMAN MAD-ADAM THE HOST OF THE BUKA PUASA AT SALOMA
The writer of this blog is really very professional. Every single line of this article is well written. New use of vocabulary is a great effort. At the same time tense, indirect speech was also sued in good manner.
