The Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) once again hosted a media appreciation event following the huge success of last year‟s event. "Up Close & Personal with the Media 2017‟, it was held on 7 September 2017 in Hilton Kuala Lumpur, one of the finest luxury hotels in the country.

Guests were feted to a scrumptious Afternoon Hi-Tea and an exciting program specially designed for this occasion. Over 230 media guests and sponsors from the crème de la crème of the retail chains' industry came to network, foster and promote good rapport between the MRCA‟s leaders and media representatives. 

The President of MRCA, Dato' Garry Chua and his Council are aware of the important and critical role the media plays, and the MRCA recognizes and appreciates the admirable job performed by their media friends. 

The media had always given the association good support and cooperation in the dissemination of our role and achievements, as a catalyst for the country‟s retail industry. Therefore the MRCA sincerely expressed their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all media practitioners in recognition of their contributions, through which many of their written works had increased awareness of the important issues related to the retailing and franchising industry. 

Organizing Chairperson and Vice President of MRCA, Ms Shirley Tay says: “This media event is close to the President‟s heart as it part of his 6-Point Action Plan, which is to have more engagement and exchange of ideas with the media.” 

Shirley Tay of Sunrider International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd added: “This is a golden opportunity for our esteemed guests and invitees to take a break from their busy schedules and foster closer relationship with one another. The occasion also takes interaction and existing cordial ties with mutual confidence, respect and trust between our sponsors, members and guests to a new level.” 

The MRCA is an association for leading retail-chains store operators and franchisors in Malaysia. It was established in 1992 to assist members in their store expansion and promote growth in the retail-chain and franchise industry. 

It is recognised as the most active retail association in Malaysia, playing an important role in promoting Malaysian franchise brand name abroad and actively supporting the government‟s policies in promoting Malaysia as one of the top shopping destinations in the world. 

The program of the afternoon comprised video presentation on the birth, growth and achievements of the association, updates from the President, a dialogue session with the media and the Lucky Draw Galore which offers many exciting prizes from generous sponsors of the MRCA. 

To add to the lively and fun atmosphere, a live band performed popular hits to keep the attendees entertained as they enjoy the tasty and delicious Afternoon Hi-Tea specially put together by Hilton Kuala Lumpur chefs to celebrate this occasion. 

The MRCA has garnered over 400 members who have expanded locally and internationally and are competing with international brands. MRCA's members often think out of the box and are prepared to compete with the international players. With such a strong organization of leading franchise and retail store operators covering more than 25,000 outlets throughout Malaysia, these members help provide over 100,000 job opportunities to Malaysians across the country. 

MRCA's President Dato Garry Chua's theme which is ‘Enriching Members for the Future’ sets the landscape for members to grow and be rewarded under the MRCA umbrella.

The event promises to be an evening of glamour and elegance, with activities to celebrate, entertain and inspire. About 1,000 guests comprising entrepreneurs, Chief Executive Officers and corporate senior management are expected to attend this anniversary function.
