Entrepreneur and advocate for the empowerment of women, June Yap, the CEO and founder of Shine From Within, is the organizer of the 1 st Annual Women Empowerment Festival (WEF) and National Director of Mrs. Malaysia & Borneo International Global 2017.

This event brings influential Malaysian professionals from the press/media, fashion, art, beauty, real estate, hospitality, and technology and finance industries to launch a powerful new platform. Malaysia is moving forward towards empowering women to achieve gender equality in leadership and social innovation, a goal for 2030.
It is time to realize WEF and support women in rewriting their own destiny. Women is a huge work force that will shape Malaysia as a developed nation, an undeniable key to economic growth, political stability and social transformation. This new platform aims to empower women by giving them opportunities to become agents of change within their communities.
The theme for 2017 is: BE BOLD FOR A CHANGE. WEF celebrates the healthy and balanced lifestyle of the modern woman, namely in the areas of FAMILY, CAREER and PERSONAL. WEF hopes to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset, develop confidence, courage, and independence and build a support network for women.
It comprises of a transformative bootcamp, community service projects and a series of social media campaigns where participants share their personal journey to inspire other women, particularly single mothers, divorcees and disadvantaged women.
June Yap, once a struggling single parent herself, is passionate about helping women to become better prepared, skilled, independent and to follow their hopes and dreams.
A firm believer of her own motto, the 6’Cs: “You have the CHOICE, to take a CHANCE or your life will never CHANGE. Unlock your COURAGE and CONFIDENCE and tell yourself that you CAN, to shine from within and live your dreams.”
“Today, I am at the early stages of realizing my dream to empower women to be the best versions of themselves. I have embarked on a new journey and experience called entrepreneurship.
"I have given birth to my company named “Shine From Within” because my vision is to be the preferred women academy to offer Certified Women Empowerment Programs where the women will be recognized both locally & internationally,” she announces with determination.
A host of women entrepreneurs attended the press launch and most notably was spokesperson and Ambassador for WEF 2017, DATIN WINNIE LOO. Speaking at the press conference, she said, “Challenges makes us stronger for nothing is impossible If you believe you CAN“.
Alongside was another Ambassador for WEF 2017, Datin Jeanette Tambakau, who is also the Ambassador for Mrs. Borneo International Global 2017 and the past President of SWEPA. The Advisor for WEF 2017 is Puan Joanna Datuk Kitingan, who is currently the Vice President of SWEPA (Sabah Women Entrepreneurs & Professional Association).
WEF Programs Social Media Campaign: #Be Bold For A Change Campaign (3 months campaign). Participants share their personal stories about their own journey about how they were bold enough to change. Prizes will be given to 9 women with the most inspiring Bold Stories. #How You Did It Campaign (1 year campaign): Successful women (Entrepreneurs/CEOs) will share their stories about how they did it. Shine From Within Fest! (1 Day Talk): Successful women (Entrepreneurs/CEOs) from various industries will be invited to speak about their personal journey to success, while balancing a family, career personal time.
Transformative Bootcamp: Introduction: Mrs. Malaysia & Borneo International Global 2017. First of its kind and unique contest that provides opportunities to all Malaysian Married Woman, Divorced and/or Single Mothers, a chance to represent Malaysia & Borneo internationally.
A total of 23 finalists in Malaysia will be brought together to vie for Top 4 Winning Titles at Mrs. Malaysia & Borneo International Global 2017 and represent their winning country at the next level of competition at Mrs. International Global 2017.
Charity Activity in Sabah & KL Finalist will be acquainted with and conduct motivational and skill related workshops as per assigned group to 5 groups of under-privileged indigenous women of Sabah. All finalists to come out with marketing plan, pitch to promote and sell the products produced by the under-privileged women.
Sponsored Events & Activities Finalists will participate in various sponsor’s promotional activities and travel. Preliminary Judging Round Training & Development Workshops Transformative learning experience for selected finalists: self-development workshops, fitness and wellness workshops, entrepreneurship / business workshops and family enrichments activities.
