IF ONLY NAJIB HAD NOT INSTALLED GST AND RETURNED SOME ILL-GOTTEN BLOOD MONEY HE MIGHT HAVE REMAINED PRIME MINISTER TODAY.
For 57 years we survived without GST and suddenly our Prime Minister burdened us with 6% tax on everything we bought! Of course if you earn RM 30,000 or even RM 10,000 a month this may seem like pittance compared to your RM 65,000 Birkin handbag made of dead cow skin. Or a crocodile version that costs maybe RM 300,000.
Bank Negara announced around 50% of Malaysians earn under RM 2,000! So an extra 6% is a massive burden as you are still buying the same amount of goods though a few items are exempted.
If we could survive 57 years without GST we can jolly well survive another 57 years!
While we say GST will be abolished, this is not technically correct. GST remains but has been reduced to 0% from 6%. The mechanism is still intact so in future once we are rid of RM 1 trillion debt Pakatan Harapan has the option of reintroducing GST of 2 or 3%!
As it is, since the announcement of the cancellation of GST, most businesses have grounded to a near halt. Why buy today when you can wait another 14 days and save 6%? For daily necessities like rice, meat and food we still have to eat as starving for 2 weeks is too radical.
The argument was that 160 nations have GST or VAT or whatever sales tax and we should follow suit. This is like saying ALL advanced nations in Europe, USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand allow gay sex, kissing and fondling breasts in public, nude bathing, sex shops, sex museums, nude photography and sales of sex toys so we must follow suit? In Holland, there are official bars where you can smoke pot legally so let's open some in KL too. In England, you can launch a Republican party with the aim of peaceful abolition of the monarchy as that is within a Briton's right.
What is the point of imposing 6% GST only to dole out cash via BR1M? It's like giving you RM 500 cash only to take back RM 800 so you end up RM 300 poorer.
It can be argued some rich traders or conglomerates escape taxes but with GST everyone pays.
Hello, I speak on behalf of most Malaysians I don't care if a few tycoons avoid paying full tax if I don't have to pay an extra 6% on things I buy! A tycoon worth RM 50 million, RM 100 million or RM 500 million will not notice the difference in grocery bills even if VAT is 100% but to normal folks a extra Rm 20 means a lot.
I used to take taxi to the nearest supermarket costing RM 8 return but now Grab charges RM 14 return. So I only do my grocery shopping when I am already in the mall for some other event or am nearby a supermarket! Cost cutting OK!
Many politicians and richies live in ivory towers and they think RM 1 million house is very de reasonable as most live in RM 3 million to RM 10 million houses. This explains the scary glut of posh condos and luxury homes weeping for an owner!
Developers are all multi-millionaires and they mingle among themselves so they think a RM 1 million condo is the norm. They forget to check the number of zeros on the pay slips they sign every month for their staff!
Gucci, one of my favorite brands, will NOT reduce its prices by 6%. This is because they have been absorbing the 6% GST tax for the past few years to keep their prices competitive!
Since the installation of GST, Gucci Malaysia has been losing 6% of their profits but with the annulment they will regain their rightful 6% profit. This is true as the prices of Gucci KL and Gucci Zurich are practically the same, even after VAT!
However other brands which have been charging 6% GST will now reduce their prices by 6%. A few other labels which have absorbed GST will tell you so while those who will be reducing prices by 6% will let you know they will deduct 6% like right now today before 1 June so buying that bag, dress, shoes or accessory will cost the same before and after 1 June. Or else they might as well close shop till 1 June.
A RM 15,000 designer bag after 1 June 2018 will cost RM 900 less so why buy now when you save save nearly one thousand ringgit after 1 June 2018?
High end items like Rolex or Cartier that easily costs RM 300,000 will now be a staggering RM 18,000 less! Think of the number of prostitutes you can pay, I mean number of peaches, pears and pomegranates you can eat and enjoy.
Shops that unable to reduce the 6% GST now can look forward to a boom in retail sales so I guess in the end same, same la. Twiddle their thumbs now until tomolo then see them turn red or purple from counting the RM 10, RM 50 and RM 100 notes!
