InFestival’s star fashion designer KEITH KEE unveils
his latest Haute Couture Autumn Winter collection inspired by the New Malaysia!
The dynamic and effervescent Keith Kee, one of
Malaysia’s most acclaimed and successful designers of his generation, claims
his Autumn Winter Couture Collection is inspired by the new Malaysian
Government which is putting the nation back on a clean slate.
“My show on 22 September 2018 is historic for me as
it is my first show after 3 momentous events--- the great election on 9 May
2018, Merdeka Day on 31 August and Malaysia Day on 22 September 2018. For the
first time in Malaysian history, we celebrated our 61st anniversary
under Pakatan Harapan and not Barisan.
“Tun Dr Mahathir proves age is just a number and
Malaysians want a fair deal. People are celebrating this new ideal as many
customers have begun ordering new clothes since 9 May 2018! The election has
been a change for the better and my regular as well as new customers have been
ordering long gowns, formal dresses and cocktail frocks as we are all in the
mood to celebrate!”
Keith Kee also notices the groundswell of positive
sentiment. “There are more parties! Before the general election, people were
listless and suffered from low morale but now Malaysians are ready to party at
the drop of a hat! So I am jumping into the bandwagon and have created formal
and elegant gowns based on current orders.”
This designer even takes a cue from the prevailing
mood focusing on transparency, clean contracts and above board deals. As a
result, his new collection features 33 gowns that are clear, clean, linear and,
dare we say it, simple. The way it should be in politics!
All these from a designer famous for embroidery,
sequins, appliques, beadwork and elaborate embellishments! Now the focus is on
the cut, drape and fold! Some designs are geometric and Art Deco while others
are more flowy and delicate.

Fans of Keith Kee need not fret. Though the new
collection is devoid of heavy decorations, there are still luxe touches like
lace. “A touch of French lace always adds class and makes the dress look more
expensive,” says Kee indulgently.
