COUTURE FASHION WEEK NEW YORK, 2018
The
origins of fashion houses worldwide are often fascinating, a select few of them
eventually acquiring the reputation of exclusive, high designer status much
sought after by those in high society and even royalty.
Which
brings us to Malaysia’s home grown fashion label, the name of which captures
both the humility and pride of ownership in a global and extremely competitive
industry – The MOD House - MOD meaning Malaysian Original Design.
In
September, 2018 The MOD House made its debut at Couture Fashion Week New York
with a stunning haute couture collection of qipao or cheongsam, paraded by a
bevy of lovely Malaysian and international models.

There
was full attendance at both shows on 9th September, Crowne Plaza
Times Square and 14th September, The Pierre, A Taj Hotel.
Both
shows were ecstatically received by the audiences comprising of international
fashion buyers, media from all over the world and socialites like Anna
Rothschild, resulting in immediate enquiries and invitations to couture fashion
events in London, Paris and Dubai.
Photo
shoots were conducted at iconic areas such as Times Square, Brooklyn Bridge and
DUMBO Brooklyn.
The
Qipao haute couture collection comprised of three 3 concepts:
Concept
1 – The Classic
Traditional
Qipao and Chinese wedding gown, the Kua, incorporating elements from the
merging of Chinese and Malaysian cultures through the usage of the beautiful
Songket fabric (Songket is a fabric that belongs to the brocade family of
textiles of the Malay world, and is hand-woven silk or cotton, with intricately
patterns of gold or silver threads) and design motifs from heritage of Baba and
Nyonya ancestry, the fusion and assimilation of the earliest Chinese immigrants
with local Malay culture.
Concept
2 – East meets West
A
marriage of East and West - the Qipao with traditional Chinese Mandarin collar
and infused with a touch of Western evening gown elegance of ruffles, peek cuts
and colors.
Concept
3 – Imperial
Fit for
royalty across the world -the Qipao fashioned as a regal gown with exquisite
cut and detailing perfect for the most exclusive of high society invitations.
With the
assistance of of Matrade Malaysia and Matrade New York, The MOD House successfully
penetrated into the US market with its ready-to-wear collection.
