Palace of the Golden Horses is enraptured and honored to host once again, a day to remember the heroic life of the late H.E Dr Nelson Mandela. He brings admiration to each one of us for his exceptional efforts in the struggle for racial equality.

His birthday of 18 July 2019 marks what would have been his 101th birthday, which was declared as the “Nelson Mandela International Day” by the UN in 2009 and is now celebrated around the world on that day. His remarkable achievements in pursuing racial equality will be the legacy that he left behind to be admired for generations to come.

Participating in Mandela Day gives others the chance to everyone to use their individual capacity to make an imprint and change the world around them. Each worldwide development for positive change starts with small efforts.

With every individual act, they fuel the force toward constructive change, raising awareness and extending the span of Mr. Mandela's qualities – battling unfairness, helping people in need and practicing reconciliation.

Nelson Mandela Day 2019, was co-hosted by South African High Commission and Palace of the Golden Horses to mark the Nelson Mandela 2019 celebration. Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim, Member of the Malaysian Parliament for Port Dickson launched the Nelson Mandela Day 2019 event, with the presence of Ms Samkelisiwe Isabel Mhlanga, High Commissioner of South Africa and Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew, Founder and Executive Chairman of CHHB .

This year we are also assisting “The Lost Food Project” to raise awareness and raise funds for poor families in Malaysia. The Lost Food Project is Malaysia's leading food bank that rescues quality, nutritious surplus food that would otherwise end up in landfill, and redistributes this food to those who need it most regardless of religion, gender, age, disability or ethnic group.

In addition to the Nelson Mandela Day 2019, we jointly hosted young children from Yayasan Chow Kit for a day of fun and enjoyment while also learning about the importance of being kind, helping humanity to be the very best and forgiveness, all qualities which were taught to the world by H.E Dr Nelson Mandela.

Yayasan Chow Kit was incorporated in 2010, but before this, they were a children's programme under Yayasan Salam Malaysia, a neighborhood NGO which organised volunteers and corporates to assist with tasks and needs of the children.

They were then called, Nur Salam, which actually signifies 'Light and Peace"- so it was the 'place of light and harmony' or sanctuary for children.

There are many positive values and legacy from Nelson Mandela’s historical act against poverty, racial equality and social justice. Nelson Mandela has proved to us that we all have the power to transform the world and the ability to make an impact.

He has fought for social justice for 67 years and stood up against apartheid that was committing egregious human rights abuses against black South Africans.

South Africa and H.E Nelson Mandela have been very instrumental to Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew. He built Pecanwood Golf and Country Club in South Africa and it is one of the key real estate developments in the country.

The Palace of the Golden Horses in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia was privileged to receive H.E Nelson Mandela during his visit to Malaysia in 1997.   In the year 2000, Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew also established a CSR and human capital development programme on students exchange programme with South Africa students for their university training programme in hus hotel.

To commemorate H.E Nelson Mandela’s stay in the hotel and his astonishing accomplishment to the world, Palace of the Golden Horses has specially created a themed suite carrying the global icon name ~ Nelson Mandela Suite.

Today, to mark the celebration of the Nelson Mandela International Day 2019, Palace of the Golden Horses has embarked on a campaign to promote the ideals of Nelson Mandela. In the house today, we have welcomed kids from the Yayasan Chow Kit to celebrate the life of a remarkable man and to convey to them the many wonderful lessons of his life.

Children play significant roles as they are the next generation of leaders of any nation. Nelson Mandela loved children and always reminded us that the future of our children is in our hands.
