SHANGHAI SHERATON HONGKOU TAKES
THE HEAT OUT OF SUMMER WITH NEW VEGETARIAN MENU
Signature Chinese restaurant YUE launches Vegetarian a la carte menu inspired by 86-year-old Buddhist Master Monk
This summer, Sheraton Shanghai Hongkou Hotel’s signature Cantonese
and Shanghai restaurant Yue is helping its guests be as healthy as possible
with a newly crafted a la carte seasonal menu entirely composed of Vegetarian
dishes. Situated just minutes from both Shanghai’s historical Bund and also
its Lujiazui Financial District in Pudong, the hotel has teamed up with famed
Buddhist Master Xing Yun to help boost healthier living this summer.
Yue’s Executive Chef Andy Deng has worked with 86-year-old Buddhist Master Xing Yun, the founder of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order, to create and launch the new locally-sourced vegetarian menu now available for lunch and dinner. Throughout the menu, no MSG, garlic or additives are used – bringing out the full flavor of the individual fresh vegetables. With a focus on using the natural nutrition of a whole host of vegetables to improve health and boost internal happiness, Master Xing Yun has shared some of his favorite healthy recipes from down the years with Chef Andy Deng. These include a Rich Soup with a variety of locally-farmed mushrooms such as the spicy-scented Matsutake, Morsel and white Enoki mushrooms along with savory Kelp, sweet chunks of Pumpkin and fresh Taro root (RMB 58). Another dish inspired by one of Master Xing Yun’s recipes is the Crispy-fried Lotus Root filled with meaty King Oyster Mushrooms (RMB78). The hearty Fig and Sea Coconut Soup with slices of almonds (RMB 38) is one of the highlights of the menu - ideal for eating in the summer months for good digestion. Known for its abilities to improve longevity, the “Classic” Seaweed Roll filled with Chinese yams, seaweed, chili picked from nearby Hangzhou and fresh basil (RMB 68) is set to be one of the menu’s favorites. The signature Yue restaurant is situated on the fourth floor of the hotel with a contemporary Chinese feel to the main dining room and numerous private spaces. The new Vegetarian menu is available for lunch and dinner until the end of September at which point the summer fresh ingredients will be replaced with seasonal Autumn dishes. Yue offers Lunch every day from 11:30AM-2:00PM and Dinner from 5:30PM- 10:00PM About Sheraton Shanghai Hongkou Hotel Sheraton Shanghai Hongkou Hotel brings art, sophistication and style to one of the most conveniently-located spots in Shanghai. SHANGRI-LA TOKYO HOLDS 'MY TOKYO' CONTEST WITH GRAND PRIZE OF 5-NIGHT STAY IN PRESIDENTIAL SUITE!!! TAKE PART NOW
KEE@FSWMAG.COM
To celebrate its very own home city, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo presents “My Tokyo” Photo Contest, giving guests a chance to win a five-night stay in the Presidential Suite with round-trip Cathay Pacific business class flights tickets to the city. Participants may also submit their photos through Instagram using the hashtag #mytokyophoto.
This contest is made possible by the generous sponsorship of Cathay Pacific Airways, Takashimaya and All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. (ANA), while it is supported by JNTO (Japan National Tourism Organization) and TCVB (Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau).
Located at the heart of Japan’s capital, above Tokyo Station, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo is a sanctuary high above Japan’s bustling capital. The first property of Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in Japan, it was voted the number one luxury hotel in the world by TripAdvisor in 2012. In 2013, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo also topped the list of The World’s Best Hotels of 2013 according to Institutional Investor’s annual poll.
Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo was inspired by the legendary land featured in James Hilton’s novel Lost Horizon, published in 1933. The name Shangri-La encapsulates serenity and hospitality delivered from the heart and the hotel is proud of its dedication to corporate social responsibility and the environment.
With an unparalleled location adjacent to the home of the Shinkansen, from where guests can utilise an exclusive Meet & Greet service direct to the bullet train platforms, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo boasts views west over Tokyo Station, the Marunouchi business district and the Imperial Palace. To the east, the tallest tower in the world – the Tokyo Sky Tree – stands over Tokyo Bay.
There has never been a better time to visit Tokyo, where the number of tourists from overseas has reached its highest level, thanks to a lower yen and a renewed buzz in the city following the successful bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games, and Mount Fuji’s recognition as a Natural World Heritage Site.
The “My Tokyo” Photo Contest is a celebration of the world’s largest city, offering prizes to both international guests and domestic residents.
International visitors may send in their own image of Tokyo with a brief description and stand a chance to win a five-night stay in the Presidential Suite at Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo with round-trip business class tickets courtesy of Cathay Pacific Airways and a Takashimaya shopping voucher worth ¥100,000. Luxury prizes will also be awarded to four runner-ups.
Domestic residents’ photo entries should depict Tokyo as they would like to introduce the city to foreigners and include a brief description to win a five-night stay in the Presidential Suite at Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo and 100,000 Sky Coins courtesy of ANA. Luxury prizes will also be awarded to four runner-ups.
The winning images will be decided by three judges – film director and photographer Kazuaki Kiriya, photographer Rowland Kirishima and calligraphy artist Sisyu. These will be based on creativity of interpretation and the quality of the images.
The submission deadline will be 15 September 2014, with winners revealed in October 2014. To find out more, go to our campaign website.

CENTRAL EMBASSY IS BANGKOK'S NEWEST, GREATEST AND MOST SENSATIONAL, LUXURIOUS SHOPPING MALL AND HAS NO DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY!
KEE@FSWMAG.COM
OWNED BY CENTRAL DEPARTMENT STORES, CENTRAL EMBASSY IS THE LATEST JEWEL IN BANGKOK'S SHOPPING MALLS.
LOCATED ON PLOENCHIT ROAD AND NEXT TO ITS FAMOUS SIBLING CENTRAL CHIDLOM DEPARTMENT STORE, CENTRAL EMBASSY IS THE LATEST AND GREATEST SHOPPING MALL CONCEIVED AND BUILT BY CENTRAL GROUP,THAILAND'S PRE-EMINENT RETAIL CHAIN WHOSE STORES ARE ALL CALLED CENTRAL FOR OBVIOUS REASON.
CENTRAL EMBASSY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EMBASSIES FROM ANY NATION NOR CAN ANYONE SEEK POLITICAL ASYLUM HERE. IT IS CALLED CENTRAL EMBASSY INSTEAD OF CENTRAL PLOENCHIT BECAUSE CENTRAL GROUP PURCHASED THE LAND THAT HOUSED THE BRITISH EMBASSY!
THE BRITS SOLD THE LAND FOR RM 600 MILLION AND PROMPTLY MOVED OUT TO CHEAPER PREMISES!
BUILDING THE 37-STOREY BUILDING COST ANOTHER RM 700 MILLION AND ANOTHER RM 500 MILLION FOR THE INTERIORS AND FIXTURES. THE GLASS PANELS ALONE COST RM 10 MILLION. THE TOTAL COST IS RM 1.8 BILLION, MAKING CENTRAL EMBASSY THE HIGHEST INVESTMENT PER SQUARE METRE.
CENTRAL EMBASSY IS POSSIBLY THE WORLD'S MOST LUXURIOUS SHOPPING MALL AS IT IS BRAND NEW WITH ITS OPENING PARTY ON 8 MAY 2014.
THE SHOPS OCCUPY 144,000 SQ METRES WHICH TAKE UP 8 STOREYS WHILE THE TOWER WILL BE THE NEW PARK HYATT, A 6-STAR SUPER HOTEL THAT PICKS ONLY THE MOST FASCINATING CITIES TO CALL HOME. PARK HYATT IS THE TOP OF THE RANGE OF THE HYATT GROUP WHICH IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH ITS POOR COUSINS GRAND HYATT AND HYATT REGENCY!
EVEN SINGAPORE DOES NOT HAVE A PARK HYATT AND LIKE KUALA LUMPUR, HAVE TO MAKE DO WITH ONLY GRAND HYATT! MOST PEOPLE THINK GRAND HYATT IS MORE HIGHCLASS, EXTRAVAGANT, EXCLUSIVE AND EXPENSIVE THAN THE BOTANICALLY NAMED PARK HYATT BUT THIS IS NOT SO!
CENTRAL EMBASSY IS THE FIRST BUILDING ON EARTH WHERE THE STRUCTURE IS CURVED IN 3D AT THE FRONT, SIDE AND TOP. THERE ARE NO SHARP CORNERS OR SIDES WHICH CAN SHOOT 'POISON ARROWS' IF YOU ARE INTO FENG SHUI AS THE CORNERS ARE ALL SEXILY ROUNDED, CURVACEOUS AND OF COURSE ORGANIC.
THE BUILDING'S FACADE IS COATED WITH 800,000 MADE TO ORDER ALUMINUM SHINGLES REMINISCENT OF REFLECTIVE THAI TEMPLES WHICH GLIMMER AND GLEAM LIKE THAI SILK. EVEN THEIR INSTALLATION WAS A CHALLENGE DUE TO THE ROUNDED SHAPE OF CENTRAL EMBASSY. RATHER SIMILAR TO THE 'MYSTERY SETTING' USED BY VAN CLEEF & ARPELS IN SETTING THEIR PRECIOUS STONES!
SUFFICE TO SAY ALL THE USUAL SUSPECTS ARE LOCATED HERE, ALL 200 OF THEM, FROM PRADA TO GUCCI TO CHANEL BUT NOT LOUIS VUITTON, STRANGE TO SAY. PRADA, HERMES, BOTTEGA VENETTA AND CHANEL HAVE THEIR FLAGSHIP STORES HERE AND RALPH LAUREN IS ALSO LOCATED ON THE STREET LEVEL WHICH IS SUPER PRIME AND I THOUGHT THIS COVETED SPACE IS RESERVED FOR COUTURE, HIGH-END LABELS AND NOT THE LIKES OF RALPH LAUREN AS I DON'T HAVE A SINGLE RL IN MY WARDROBE!
WITH CENTRAL EMBASSY, BANGKOK IS NOW POISED TO BE SOUTHEAST ASIA'S PARTY CENTRAL FOR UPSCALE SHOPPING!
