STYLO OPENING NIGHT! 2 APRIL 2011 SATURDAY

STYLO the much anticipated fashion fest organised by the indefatigable and glamorous Dato' Nancy Yeoh of RAPR who is also known as the PR Queen of Malaysia opened with a bang on Saturday night at Chin Woo Stadium in the heart of old Kuala Lumpur.
I guess Dato' Nancy Yeoh played safe by having Opening Night on 2 April instead of a day earlier as some might think it was an April Fool's joke and decide not to turn up! You never know what people think!

As it was, the 'secret' location turned up to be the old but extremely well kept Chin Woo Stadium, one of KL's most historic landmarks. The stadium, built under the jurisdiction of Y.T Lee, was officiated by then Sultan Hishamuddin Alam Shah in 1950 and opened by High Commissioner of Great Britain Sir MacDonald. With the bigger Stadium Merdeka and Stadium Negara nearby, Chin Woo's glory days as the pre-eminent venue for badminton tournaments both locally and internationally are over but it is in spick and span condition. There is even a swimming pool should STYLO decide to host a bikini bash or Victoria Secret's show.

For the duration of STYLO 2011 from 2 to 10 April it has been magically transformed into Scarlet Theatre in the style of Parisian chic burlesque dance halls and cabarets inspired doubtless by the blockbuster 'Burlesque' and the earlier 'Moulin Rouge'. It has been decorated beyond recognition with walls dramatically clad in black and red with a double row of chandeliers glittering over the catwalk. Chin Woo Stadium is another surprise location that knocked the panties off the guests. Each year, STYLO and Dato' Nancy Yeoh keep guests in delightful suspense over the 'secret location' until the last minute. Two years ago the venue was at KL Lake Gardens. Last year it was held in Sentul, not the most upmarket of quarters but so unique as it was in a hall that had never seen such glamour, more so when attended by Her Majesty the Queen of Malaysia DYMM Permaisuri Agung Tuanku Nur Zahirah! The Queen was not at Scarlet Theatre tonight but there were plenty of queens swanning aroundI must say.

Opening Night featured 11 designers from MODA (Malaysia Official Designers Association) that will be celebrating its 21st birthday in May! President of MODA Gillian Hung aka Mama G welcomed the guests while emcee Edwin Sumun whose red high heels in faux leopard is something I need to get.

Dato Nancy and Princess Becky should swop their Hermes bags as Dato' Nancy's yellow outfit matched Princess Becky's Birkin perfectly while Dato' Nancy's black Kelly could go with the dark blue dress!
