LAFITE THE FINE DINING WESTERN RESTAURANT IN SHANGRI-LA KUALA LUMPUR HOTEL CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF THE HOTEL'S ANNIVERSARY BY RE-CREATING THE ORIGINAL AND FIRST MENU ENJOYED BY GUESTS 30 YEARS AGO! WHAT A WAY TO EAT YOUR WAY DOWN MEMORY LANE!

LAFITE WAS MALAYSIA'S FRENCH FINE DINING RESTAURANT WHEN IT OPENED AT THE SAME TIME AS SHANGRI-LA KUALA LUMPUR ON 20 APRIL 1985 WHEN MANY ARE NOT YET BORN.

AS A YOUNGSTER TOLD ME, "IN 1985 I WAS JUST A SPERM SWIMMING INSIDE MY FATHER'S BALLS"! GOOD HEAVEN BUT IT IS TRUE AS HE WAS BORN IN 1993.

BACK THEN LAFITE WAS THE LAST WORD IN FRENCH COUTURE DINING AND WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE RESTAURANT. TODAY, 30 YEARS LATER, IT REMAINS ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE THOUGH MARINI'S ON 57, MARBLE 8, TROIKA SKY DINING AND NOBU HAVE MENUS THAT COST MORE THAN LAFITE.

BUT LAFITE (NAMED IN HONOUR OF THE GREAT CHATEAU THAT PRODUCES SOME OF FRANCE'S BEST WINES) CONTINUES TO BE HELD IN THE HIGHEST REGARDS BY GOURMETS AND CONNOISSEURS OF FINE DINING AND THE GOOD LIFE.

SERVICE THROUGHOUT ITS 30 YEARS HAS BEEN STERLING AND OF COURSE LAFITE HIRES ONLY THE MOST TALENTED CHEFS WHICH EXPLAINS THE HIGH PRICES AS THESE CHEFS INSIST ON BEING PAID THE SAME AMOUNT IN EUROPE!
