ORGANISED BY MALAYSIAN FRANCHISE HOLDER AMBER CHIA WHO OWNS AMBER CHIA ACADEMY WHICH HAPPENS TO BE MALAYSIA'S TOP MODELLING SCHOOL, ASIA MODEL FESTIVAL AWARDS IS KOREA'S TOP INTERNATIONAL MODEL CONTEST AND THE MALAYSIAN MALE AND FEMALE MODELS WILL FLY OFF TO SEOUL TO COMPETE AT THE ASIAN LEVEL.
I ALREADY CAN GUESS WHO THEY WINNERS WILL BE SINCE I PERSONALLY CHECKED EACH AND EVER FINALIST OF BOTH SEXES AT ZETA BAR AT KL HILTON DURING THE LAUNCH OF MIFA 2011 ON 17 NOVEMBER. THE QUALITY IS VERY GOOD THIS YEAR AND THE JUDGES WILL HAVE A TOUGH TIME.
I am not judging as the judges are sponsors and Koreans who are flying in for the occasion. So for once, no one can accuse the winners of sleeping with the judges since the Korean judges are flying in one day before the finals and would not have time to have sex with 16 finalists.
Even I cannot handle 16 people within 1 night!
Kee Hua Chee is finalist #17, slotted in at the last minute---ok so he is not but still gets his 15 minutes worth of fame here

ASIA MODEL FESTIVAL AWARDS NEW FACE MODEL SEARCH - MALAYSIA 2011: ANNOUNCEMENT OF TOP 16 FINALISTS
After close to two months of searching, voting and auditioning, the top 16 finalists for the Asia Model Festival Awards New Face Model Search for Malaysia 2011 were revealed at a press conference held at Aristo, Zouk Club Kuala Lumpur.
The winners selected will be personally trained and groomed by supermodel Amber Chia and catwalk guru Benjamin Toong. They will represent our country at the annual Asia New Face Model Search (ANFMS) 2012 held in conjunction with the prestigious 7th Asia Model Festival Awards in Seoul, Korea.
For the first time ever, the ANFMS 2012 will have representatives from Malaysis making their debut on an international arena. “Representing our country at an international level is beyond an excellent platform for any model, and I am extremely grateful to the Korea Model Association for allowing me to bring this amazing opportunity to Malaysia” explained Chia.
The search saw over 500 contestants submitting their applications through online registrations as well as from attending a one-stop only road show audition at the Damansara Jaya campus of KDU University College. This number was reduced to a top 51 during the semi-final stage, where only 26 females and 25 males made the cut.
The top 51 then faced judges Chia, Toong, professional models Esther Tan and KS Tan during callback auditions at Amber Chia Academy where they were supposed to be eliminated till 12 remained. However, due to the stellar performance by the semi-finalists during the audition combined with the accumulation of SMS voting (which contributed to 50% of their final scores), the judges decided on a top 16 instead.
“The potential displayed by this bunch of models is of such high quality all four judges found it really difficult to select just the top 12. Moreover, they had such strong support from their fans, family and friends through SMS voting, making it an even tighter race,” said Toong.
The 8 female models who made it through to the top 16 are Ancy Look Yeen Hua (20), Eileen Chuah Zhi Ling (19), Jayarubini a/p Sambanthan Muthaliyar (20), Josephine Chin Oi Mun (20), Kao Yu Ling (21), Reina Lim Huay Fung (18), Sabrina Beneett (21) and Wafa Johanna de Korte (17).
The 8 male models consist of Aven Chop Kah Whai (19), Bradley Lim Chee Hou (20), Bryan Ho Fung Ron (19), George Tan Zhuo Chun (21), Kurt Chin Ke Liang (18), Lim Gian Yang (19), Soo Xu Ze (20), and Yap Zi Xin (22).
These triumphant 16 will undergo an Amber Chia Academy boot camp. Among the activities are a makeover session, training on posing by Chia before their official photo shoot and training on catwalk by Toong in preparation for their show down during the grand finale.
Besides Chia and Toong, other judges for the grand finale include the Chairman of the Korea Model Association Yang Eu-Sig, President of the Korea Pro Makeup Association Ahn Mi-Ryeo and renowned Korean model and actress Lee Hwa-Seon.
The grand finale is at Zouk Club Kuala Lumpur on 28th November 2011.
These 8 female finalists will also model on the runway at a fashion show at the prestigious Malaysia International Fashion Week (MIFW) 2011, just two days before their grand finale.
Both the female and male winners, and their respective runners-up will win all-expenses paid trip to Seoul, Korea, where they will undergo a one week modeling boot camp with one of Korea’s top modeling schools in preparation for the ANFMS 2012.
Both winners will grace the covers of leading entertainment and lifestyle magazine “FACES” as well as “myc!”, the largest inter-university lifestyle magazine. Both winners will also walk away with prizes courtesy of main sponsor Prosense and co-sponsors KLutched, Shoes, Shoes, Shoes, Amber Chia Academy, A Cut Above, S2 Slimming, Roxy & Quiksilver, Canon, Celebrity Fitness, Artisan & Artist, Minox, Quarter and Ecoba. The combined worth of the prizes for each winner is over RM100, 000.
Other sponsors include Zouk Club Kuala Lumpur, Schmidt Marketing, Korean Beauty Square, Ten Seconds, Maxx Rewards, Heineken, WebLITE, Guezz Studio, The Hill, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Amir Luqman, Keith Kee Couture, Philosophy Men, and Salabianca.
About Korea Model Association
Korea Model Association (KMA) boasts a network of over 5,000 members and is one of two of the biggest model associations and talent management outfits in Korea. As the only government-sanctioned body in South Korea in the modeling industry, KMA is also the prestigious organiser of the annual Asia Model Festival Awards helmed by chairman Yang Eui-Sig. He explains, “The Asia Model Festival Awards is held every year in Seoul to create a network amongst models, to promote cultural exchange amongst them and to create a model sub-culture.”
On 29th April 2011, international model and actress Amber Chia was appointed the exclusive representative by the KMA to select up-and-coming models from Malaysia to compete at the annual Asia New Face Model Search during her trip to Seoul, where she signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Yang.
About Asia Model Festival Awards
Established for the appreciation and cultivation of modeling talent, the Asia Model Festival Awards (AMFA) plays an important role in promoting harmony and exchange between models all over Asia. Organised annually by the Korea Model Association (KMA), which is the only government-sanctioned body under South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the prestigious AMFA is touted as the Academy Awards equivalent to the Asian modeling and fashion industry.
An estimated 1.3 billion people, across 128 countries around the world, are expected to watch next year’s AMFA as it will be aired over more than 20 channels such as SBS Plus, China Gunaxi TV, KNTV Asia and Arirang TV, just to name a few. Set to be held during the second half of January 2012 at the majestic Olympic Hall of the Seoul Olympic Park, the 7th AMFA will take place throughout an eventful three-day, which will include fashion shows, beauty fairs, an awards ceremony and of course, the Asia New Face Model Search 2012.
At the 6th AMFA, which was held early this year, our very own Ford Models’ Supermodel of the World Malaysia 2009 winner Kelly Jagan proudly brought home the ‘Star Model Award - Malaysia’ trophy. Besides that, Malaysian top model Tinie also won the ‘Star Model Awards’ back in 2008.
Other past award recipients at AMFA included the crème de la crème of the international fashion, modeling and entertainment industry such as Taiwanese supermodel Lin Chi-Ling; Taiwanese actors and singers Jerry Yan and Joe Cheng; China’s Next Top Model Cycle 3 winner Susanna Mao; international recording artist and actor Rain; American actresses Celeste Thorson and Esther Chae; Japanese actress Hayashi Tantan; Thai actress Khemupsorn ‘Cherry’ Sirisukha; South Korean girl groups Wonder Girls, Girls’ Generation and 4Minute; South Korean boy bands Super Junior and 2PM; Filipino actors Aljur Abrenica and Iza Calzado; Filipino singers Frencheska Farr and Freddie Aguilar; South Korean designer the late Andre Kim and many more.
One for the road
